About 6wks ago, I moved into a Next Gen 680 and doing roughly the same, at similar weights, with no trailer aero. Unfortunately, the POS has the ongoing injector issues. It was in the shop 4wks ago, then, the CEL came back on this week for the same thing. A batch of new trucks came in and the rumor is I’m moving into one of those, now. Ugh!

I’ve been looking at who you pull for, just thinking if I should get serious about other options.

Those T680 Next gens are nice looking trucks. What kind of Engine is in it? Most likely gonna guess that paccar that gives all the issues?

The market has not been that bad lately for me. Seems to be picking up just a tad bit but I expect that to last just a few months at best. Once winter hits I am gonna guess we will be in for a major down fall.

I have been considering leasing on to a company to find some steady work but not really sold on it quit yet. I have contacted a few places that say they have work in the area but nothing worth my time to change at this moment.

I also have been trying to learn the new spec's coming out in the Volvo's. I want to order one next year but doubt it will happen if the market flops this winter. Also if Trump wins the Fuel Savings is not gonna be as big an issue for the next 4 years like it was when I ordered this truck.

If somehow Biden wins I will really be pushing to get that new truck ordered next year. I believe these fuel prices will be even worse this time especially with the way inflation has taken ahold of everything. I had these same thoughts last election and sure glad I did what I did to save some money.

Yes. MX13. However, we’ve had so many topend issues and connecting rods disconnect on the X15, I don’t see it being a better option. It’s definitely not as nice of an engine to drive.

Oof! I was thinking you were on with TraLo. I’ve been away for awhile, so my memory is a bit rusty.

I have talked to them but you probably thinking of LongFLD as he was on with them. I have ran my own authority the whole time I have drove so far. Winter time has me thinking of different options as this might get bad.

    Yes. It was him.

Friday, a tech dumped a couple bottles of, what is supposedly, a PACCAR-specific fuel additive, into my full tanks. Today, I get 20 miles down the road and the thing started intermittently dropping an injector, which it has never done. It kept doing that the rest of the day. Tomorrow, I’m going to call a service mgr and see how they want to deal with this. I might be moving into a new truck sooner than I thought. And, that won’t be fun, as I run a time-sensitive, dedicated loop and going up to HQ would add 4hrs to it. Ugh!

Dang that does not sound like fun. Why not just use the Hot Shots stuff? That stuff seems to be one of the better stuff on the market to me. I stopped using it for a month to see if I could tell any difference. Truck runs smoother with it and might get better MPG's but that is hard to tell for sure.

Hopefully you can get in the new truck easier than driving that extra miles. I would see if they can meet you and take that truck your in back to shop while you finish out your day. I ask to much to be a company driver though. Ha Ha

I work for a bunch of underachievers who simply outlasted the other warm bodies who came through the revolving door. Drivers like you and I are looked at as troublemakers, because trucking is engrained in us and we’re constantly seeking better ways to do it, we hold ourselves to a higher standard and expect the same from others, and we came from an era where accountability mattered.

I thought about having them run the new truck to a mutual meeting spot. However, there are very few drivers left, so there won’t be anyone to do it. HQ and my satellite location have less than half the drivers they started the year with. They keep it up and the few of us remaining drivers will be gone, as well.

No doubt about that. I cannot stand people these days. One reason I went on my own after I ran a shop and worked in the oilfield. Could not see telling these kind of people what to do. Would waste more time explaining and could do it faster myself. I had talked about this with my wife earlier this year. She had made the comment about me going back to work local and running a manufacturing plant. Told her not a chance in hell unless I cannot work for myself anymore. Would not even think about dealing with these people.

So you gonna just go buy a truck and put it to work and get away from that place?

I'm with you. I'm 50 and have no interest in retiring but I might if I ever have to work for anybody again. Every business I used to know a lot about has changed so much I might as well be a new guy.

My tax guy always asks me why I got into trucking and all of its regulations and BS if I want to work for myself. My answer is that I just don't know anything like I know this. And I still enjoy it when it's good.

It’s too late for me to do it, now, as I only have a few years left. I got cold feet, in the late-90’s, but, should’ve done it, then. For sure, I do still think about it, though.
