Don’t get your hopes up for 5 star dining and hotel stays as a trucker… A Gatorade bottle or a dry spot in the grass works as a good container or place for spent coffee if you are stuck out someplace without a bathroom. Sure you have to eat but save the nice HOT meal for after you are loaded or empty… Snacks and Spam can fill the void till you get to Wal-Mart or a truck stop… T I M E you will quickly learn is money! Sometimes you can’t park at consignees but most of the time you can… Park close to them and the satellite still thinks you are there… Running a 100% legal log can be done but well if you get stuck on the the road due to traffic or poor planning its YOUR decision whether you drive a little farther to a safe place to park for the night… After you are out there and have had time to explore your abilities you will better understand logging and what you need to do and can do from time to time… You look at it as a black and white subject and you will not make the money and get stuck out in some BAD places. NEVER Let someone push you beyond what you have energy for or can live with at the end of each day…

That’s absurd for someone to tell you TMC is going to short change it's short supply of drivers! If you don’t pay attention to what you are doing and run over a fire hydrant and rip the tandems from the trailer you will be billed 300 bucks by TMC get routed to Des Moines and be put through additional training a driving test and either be put back in your truck or get a 1st class bus ticky home… This 300-dollar is the cap on a per incident basis meaning if it was something preventable you will never be responsible for up to 300 bucks of the repair but never more… TMC knows some things happen so if you tried to prevent something from happening they will take that in to account and evaluate the situation as to whether to charge you for the occurrence. As far as mechanical repairs they have repair centers and Peterbilt dealers for that and its their truck not yours so they pick up ALL the expenses related to it … Your only loss isT I M E so when you are sitting still the wheels are not moven you are not maken money…

P.S. NO ONE or Company Can take ANY money out of your paycheck with out you FIRST signing a piece of paper allowing them to do so. Iths the LAW… Hope this helps!

The most common thing is that when you decide to park your truck on YOUR lawn for the weekend then YOU will have to pay up to $300 of the wrecker bill to get it towed out. Makes perfect sense to me. Why should the company pay because you made a poor choice about parking.

hey guys the truth about tmc is yes if you mess up with a preventable accedent you will pay the 300 and they can take it out of your pay beause in oriantation they make you sighn a paper saying so and as fa as the wrecker bill if you need one because of stupidty you wil pay the WHOLE WRECKER BILL...the company seems to be good so far they are very strict and oriantation is basicly run like a military boot camp I know this because I am sitting in the hotel at the des moines termanal in oriantation but if you think about it they have to be strict flatbedding is hard and dagerous work but good paying if you keep your nose clean and play by the rules. they will not think twice of firing you for being unsafe and willing breaking DOT rules on hos and repeated intentinal log book violations but the owner has this right he wants the best for a man that pays out of pocket for any load claims or accedents he dosent want people that are going to cost him money and the equipment they give you is top of the line peterbuilt 379's or 387's and a brand new aluminum spread axle trailer. well enough rambling so far so good.

I will say this for Tarp More Cargo. They got some good looking, clean trucks. All the loads look uniform. They take some pride and time in their equipment and with their securing and straping. Me; I just say no to tarps!:p

Let me start with saying simply this: No comments on the spelling of the word anomaly lol. It's that way for a reason.

Now on to my purpose. It's great to read from some of you employed with TMC setting the record straight. That said, it's equally disturbing to read some of the utter crap posted by people who have no clue. As a member of the Safety Department here at TMC I will tell you that this company is a highly disciplined company and we discourage in the strongest possible way some of the nonsense described in this thread. I could go on a rant here but I won't. I will just say that I have been in the industry for more than 20 years now, most of that in Operations and 12 years of that as VPO for a large midwest LTL carrier. TMC is one of the finest companies in this industry. It is THE BEST in flatbedding bar none. It isn't for everyone. If you are a slacker, have a difficult time following rules, don't have any self respect with regards to your personal grooming and appearance, have a general crappy attitude and disposition then please, move on to Brand X and don't waste our time. I use an analogy like this: As a former Marine, we are the few and the proud. A lot of guys want to be Marines but don't have the metal. There is no shame in that, they join the also rans, Army, Navy & Airforce. Think of TMC that way. If you have what it takes then by all means come be a part of the best flatbed company going and if you don't, well as I mentioned above, join up with Brand X.

If you guys have any questions, PM me and I will respond as soon as I can or post them up. I will monitor this thread for a while and be happy to assist any of you guys the best that I can. Who knows, if you join us at TMC you might even be on my team. Be safe out there.

Great post. I have never worked for TMC but after talking with a couple of HAPPY drivers and reading a lot of info on them as well as their securement training, I would lean towards your assement that TMC is a GREAT flatbed company.

However, with that said, their safety rating is not that great :sad7: . I just read on safersys.org that as of 02/01/07 their rating is a whopping 97!!! ouch.

Compare that to other carriers our size (especially training companies) and you will find that while high it falls within the norm. We work every day at lowering that score but sadly we can not drive the trucks for them.

Actually I have compared TMC to other flatbed carriers that have between 2500-3000 power units. Not that I checked take on newbies.

Sadly, TMC was the highest and the next in line was at 62. So yes TMC's number is extremely high.

And even though it is a direct reflection of TMC, I am sure that a lot of the responsibility for that record is on the drivers. One can only hope that the drivers are doing what is legal and hopefully that number will become lower with time.

All in all, I personally still feel that TMC is a "cut above" other skateboard companies out there. So much so, that I may apply to them.
