I feel like this should be a simple question, however, I can't seem to get a straight answer from any source I have found so far so here I am. I am working on getting started on my new truck driving career. Planning on going to a company that offers CDL training. I know every company has the requirement asking for verifiable employment history. My problem is I currently have a W2 job but have only been there for three months, prior to that I spent the last 13 years as a stay at home dad and running a landscape business BUT I did all of that work under the table. Long story short, am I going to have an issue getting into a company and most importantly hired by said company because of my lack of verifiable employment?

Did you file income taxes during that 13 years?
Where is your location? -
Chinatown Thanks this.

Yes, you will have a problem.
As for a solution.....hmm do you have anyone that can give you a affidavit as to your involvement with raising the children/child? "I can testify that Mr Loftis was involved in our local PTA/Boy Scouts/Soccer with my children from xx to xx." You will have to prove what you did for the last 10 years.Bud A. Thanks this. -
It is a simple question - you don't have 10 years of employment history because you were a stay at home parent. You have 3 months of outside of the home work experience. It is not against the rule to not have 10 years of work experience.
§391.21(b)(11) requires that an application for employment contain 10 years of prior employment information on the driver. §391.21 Application for employment. Question 3: §391.21(b)(11) requires that an application for employment contain 10 years of prior employment information on the driver. -
You may have to go through Texas WIOA program to get free cdl school.
Most, if any, trucking companies won't hire you for their cdl school. Apply anyway and find out for sure.
The Texas WIOA will though and also help you find a trucking job after graduation. -
Doesn't seem fair, but a stay-at-home mom doesn't have any problem transitioning to a trucking job, but a stay-at-home dad does.
Loftis Thanks this. -
Maybe try this company for a dock-to-driver program.
Apply in person, not on the phone.
