It's crazy there's people in retail where practically no skill of any kind whatsoever is required and they make that much per hour. But they don't have a pension so there's that. My county has a similar job posting all the time and it seems like they can't get any takers but at the same time I dunno how anyone can live on $500-$600 a week after deductions even in a cheap to live area.

Right I understand that for sure I d believe they got a very very miniscule raise of 12.5% that's spread over this new contract starting with about 5ish percent.... Not much but there's that. Like you said it's kinda sick you've gotten a trade and the starting really isn't much to write home about but is the saying true? You have to start somewhere? Hmm. Far as a pension I think you have to contribute x amount of years which again does kinda suck I'm not sure how their pension is, but when I worked at General Mills ( i should've stayed , making 6.5-7k a month) it was 3 years to be vested

For the most, working for a county or even state jobs the pay is lower then private sector jobs. They do offer better benefits packages but in reality you’re paying for it with lower wages. You really need to look at the offer and maybe even what position you could advance into and make your decision of that

    Rideandrepair and DanOMac Thank this.

I worked for a county road dept in iowa for four years and finally left due to low morale , low pay and bad management....always on call for no pay from November to March so ya couldn't plan anything.
The benefits and retirement were hard to beat tho.

Yeah you're right I understand, although there are other similar related jobs that does pay more with other counties for instance I saw one but they wanted you to have tanker and EPA cert, which I don't mind getting they were starting between 26-33hr
