I have told many over the years to learn your lanes/know your lanes and that's kind of what I mean but it applies differently to whatever kind of freight you haul. For instance, even though I run dry van I NEVER haul food. I just hate it. I never have a good experience at food DC's so I just don't even try. Too easy to hang up and find another load.
So I guess 'know your lanes' comes after learning what you like to haul and when, what general parts of the country you like to work in and honestly what you need to make to be happy. You said you weren't trying to get rich, same here, I prefer doing work I enjoy and that for me means staying the hell out of certain areas and not hauling certain things.
Good luck sir!77fib77, Siinman, sirskidmark and 2 others Thank this. -

Not to get rich but find freedom by means of becoming an owner operator? Like money is secondary? This is supposed to be busines and with that attitude, you'll become a slave to your truck and brokers, then credit cards and whatever else there is that makes that thing running. You gotta be driven by wanting to make money, otherwise it is not going to last too long.
