I don't think you have to pay for it, or didn't anyway. You did have to have it before entering.

I think it was "Low Usage Exemption" IIRC

For less than 1k miles a year. I used it twice my first year to run through due to wildfires.

My first year was after Jan 1 21

We have a growing list in the break room at the barn of places that will not receive you either if you have a old truck even if you get by CARB…

If you have a big “Sack”……… don’t t worry about CARB. Just roll the dice. I see a handful non-compliance trucks every day. If you’re going to be asking…… don’t bother coming into COMMIEFORNIA. We are like the Jehovah Witnesses, we only care about our inner circle. :biggrin_25511:

If you knowingly take your truck into a restricted situation, you kind of deserve what you get. As far as us in CA, We don't care if you come into our state or not.

Only guy I personally know that got caught just got a slap on the wrist and told not to come back. But he’s been out there this spring again bringing calves out.

It used to be out of state trucks that rolled 5000 miles a year. Instate was 1000 miles. You could get a one time permit.

I don't remember the exact details.

And it's gotten stricter since I was there 9 years ago.

I’ll just stick with the NW if I feel like headed to that side, no reason to deal with the bs

There’s a dozen or so states that are getting onboard with the California emissions requirements so just a heads up.
