Don’t have any details yet but my truck is done so I’ll grab it in the morning and head to Idaho Falls for my afternoon pickup. Been stressing over losing this load to Maryland. One of those loads that’s far and few between.

I was told a while back from a tech at Dobbs Peterbilt that Cummins would deny the warranty work because of high idle time.. so I’m fortunate he was wrong!

Spent some time trying to educate myself about these systems and learned quite a bit. There’s so much that can affect the soot levels. From too much idling, to driving in low rpm’s to save fuel, hauling light loads all the time and the list goes on and on.

Crazy how things happen sometimes. It broke down at the perfect time and repaired just in time for me to carry on without losing the next load. Never intentionally leave such a gap between loads so just makes me wonder.

This motel is pretty nice too with a killer breakfast, free beer and coffee. At least when I’m broken down my motels get approved by the boss lady without a fuss :)

One other thing I wanted to mention. About a month ago my truck was running strangely incredible. Running near 80k lbs it was climbing hills like never before. Like I-80 heading west out of Cheyenne there’s a long climb, not steep just long where it always robbed some speed. Last time it lost nothing and held a steady 75 never needed to drop down to 17th.

Acted this way for a couple weeks.

Yes all of those things listed is a big issue. One reason why I do a few heavy loads every once in awhile and take some loads that need to be pushed on time. A good mix of everything helps keep the truck clean. I also use the Hot Shots Secret most of the time. ON the D13 the lower RPM's are better for the emissions system since it keeps the heat in. It makes a bigger difference when you can down speed the to 900-1000 RPM's. I know the cummins is nothing like the Volvo engine.

Glad you got to keep the load. I am heading back towards the house for the weekend from OH. Might try and take a load out west since I see a few extra for Monday. I have not been out that way since last year, Nothing been paying to go out that way for some reason.

Seems you have good intuition as well.

Most likely you had a break though and had a clear engine. When I had my other truck and it had Emissions issues it would derate the power. Was hard to tell until you pulled a load in area that was harder to pull like that area. Most likely it has gradually changed and was hard to feel. I did not get codes until it was pretty bad on that truck.

Got a Coyote load out of Plant City, FL to hear that paid pretty darn good. Was a tight 4 day run but heavy. Wasn’t a last minute thing either I bid my normal crazy amount, and surprisingly we agreed on a hundred less. Hard to believe being Coyote and all but every once in awhile I get lucky.
Was nice not to deadhead out of Florida for a change.

I wonder if they are taking bids more now since they are selling it to RXO? I am gonna guess some of the reps just don't care at this point. Ha Ha

    Probably!
First ever load from them out of FL. They’re always the worst with their $0.89 specials, lol

I know I'm late to the party, but some years back, I had to do it with 2 different Internationals. Some TAs and Petros can do it, so once was there, and another time was at International. It ain't often I say this, but that may be the one time where I think the TA/Petro is a better option. You'll only be down 12-24 hrs versus the dealer, which could be a mini vacation lol....once was in 2016 and another time was 2017. The company paid, and I think it was 1200 at the TA near Lake Station, IN. The other time was closer to 2k at the dealership in Uniontown, PA I think. The 2nd time, of I remember right, there was a couple of other issues with the truck. Nowadays, I'd anticipate at minimum 1500 for the cleaning of the DPF.

People tend to forget what's in front of a DPF when they diagnose an emission system fault.
