If you have a cdl in hand , tsa letter in hand and hazmat test in hand , unless it's changed ( the rules ) then you should be good . Might retry that office again , or another one. Or call the dmv cdl dept .
How long does it take to actually recieve hazmat endorsement???

Update: I spoke to someone at the dmv they gave me a temporary license until the hard copy comes in the mail, however it says not valid for carrying hazardous materials on the temporary, I was wondering if it says that because it’s a temp, till the hard copy comes in, or did they make a mistake again. I repeated to the clerk that I passed everything, and she also confirmed she seen all my updated credentials to acquire hazmat on my license. Should I be good? -
What part of "not valid for HazMat on temporary" do you think means go ahead, you are good?
Lav-25 Thanks this. -
I got cleared from TSA and passed written, but they still gave me a temp saying I can’t transport hazmat materials on my temporary license. -
....i'm missing something here , did you have a active cdl license or just the permit?
You can have a permit and pass the hazmat test too. As far as the TSA check i don't know , but guess they might clear you with a permit . I'd wait till the hard copy license arrives ( the official picture one) then make sure all the endorsements are on it.
If not , then go fix it. Permits are always temp with a license , only hard copy ( official picture ) are the real deal. Temps are easily altered so they all have restrictionsLast edited: Jul 22, 2024

Waiting a couple weeks for the plastic isn't going to kill you.
tscottme, Sirscrapntruckalot and Lav-25 Thank this. -
Seems like a state like California that likes to think they are ahead of everyone else would get out of the dark ages and have a machine that produces licenses on the spot.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
The fines with HazMat for the DRIVER can be $10,000 for certain violations. That's not a typo.
Don't tell yourself some story that will accidentally have you hauling HazMat or hauling HazMat if your boss says he needs you to haul it. A FLAT NO HAULING HAZMAT until you have your permanent CDL.
I hope I wasn't too subtle.Lav-25 Thanks this. -

Update: (I am CDL holder for over a year and half) The clerk somehow thought I didn’t have a CDL so they just gave me a permit for the endorsement. Stupid. However, after that, they placed a hold on my hazmat endorsement because she put on the application I wasn’t a CDL holder, so partially was approved and the other wasn’t (this is what the DMV office on the phone told me) however, she cleared me and now shows on my DL Record. More of the story, these clerks made mistakes which delayed all this so for those having similar issues ASK REPEATEDLY before leaving dmv.
