Is that what that is? I drink black coffee so Starbucks might ruin coffee for me. I really don't like the way coffee tastes with all that cream and sugar. I'm about that black coffee life. It's healthier to drink it black anyway.

Yeah black coffee is the way to taste it & healthier, as you say. Roasting well imparts a very slight sweetness to the beans. But the difference between exactly right and over-roasted can be 10 seconds of roasting. Someone that knows what they are doing can roast & brew coffee strong enough for you to stand a spoon in it and it won't have any bitterness.

Before comically expensive Starbucks people's experience with expensive drinks were with wine. Most people, including me, don't know much about it & cannot tell difference between rare & expensive & low quality. They use price as the measure. Starbucks research saw this & sold bitter coffee to people as what they call Aspirational buyers. Buyers who want to be seen has buying expensive/quality things. Starbucks coffee beans aren't significantly more expensive or higher quality than say McDonalds or higher quality grocery store bean. It's expensive (people accept that means quality).

James Hoffman is a champion batista on YouTube that knows a lot about coffee all over the world. My tastes are happy with fresh McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts or Love's bean to cup in the truckstop.

Sorry, I'm picky about my coffee. I also despise coffee-based "girly drinks". I will go to Starbucks (although I usually buy the Starbucks iced coffee at the supermarket..), but I NEVER add anything more than sugar and oat milk to it (I'm so lactose-intolerant, I can't even drink a little bit of half-and-half anymore). The medium roast Pike Place Blend is decent, and it's always the same, everywhere. Italian roast is too #### tannic and bitter. Blonde roast is too #### weak. And anything with whipped cream, sprinkles, caramel shots, etc. is NOT a cup of coffee; sorry! Oh, also, never buy the pastries; they do not make them in-house; they may be several days old...

That swill truckstops used to sell was often over-cooked, sometimes had been sitting for hours, and I'm sorry, but non-dairy creamer tastes like crap. Cheaper and more legal than crack, but even when I was driving OTR, I could at least usually find a McD's for coffee somewhere.
