Watched a bobtail get towed from the Wal-Mart lot in Commerce City, Co. this morning. The lot is posted no idling, the temps were not cold/warm enough to warrent idling last night. Owner/Operator bobtail parked in the lot apparently was idling his truck, security told him to shut it down. He did and then turned it back on 10 minutes later. Again they told him to shut it down unless he was building air or working on the truck (mind you it was 6am) or leave. HE flipped the guard off, they called the cops. Cops gave him the same ultimatium, apparently he had a few choice comments for the cops and found himself heading to the iron bar hotel and his truck being towed and impounded.

Yep, this is how we build good workign partnerships with companies and Cities.

Maybe that's one of the reasons people think truckers are morons!
There was a guy parked next to me in Denver the other night idling all night next to me in a company truck with the windows open...I asked him in the morning why he left it running with the windows open and he said..." The weather was so nice I just wanted the fresh air but I can't sleep unless the truck is running."

In case you company drivers were wondering why so many companies won't give you the option to idle!

Personally...my attitude changed 1000% after I did the O/O-L/O thing. I understand the costs much better now...and treat this company truck as if it were my own! Maybe all newbies should do the L/O thing first...just to get a better understanding of all the issues!

I have a hard time sleeping when the truck IS running. Some of these heated propane fired trailers I pull get their power off the truck's batteries, so a few nights last winter I was stuck idling.

    Classic.

I do understand it can be difficult if you're used to the truck running. But you need to be able to sleep with it running or not.

I love this time of year...Because I can shut it off and sleep in total quiet if I'm not in a truckstop.
I was parked at a Walmart recerntly and I was in the side lot all alone with th truck shut off and my window screens in and man was it peaceful...

It's just one of the many reasons that I shun truckstops whenever possible.

So if the guy can't sleep without the engine idling, what does he do when he is home?
