Can you explain why it's a struggle to get and retain drivers when it's a high paying gig in the trucking world?? I'm about to get into it with KAG Merchant Gas. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm about to start KAG Cryo. Fill me in please. Be as honest as you can. Certainly won't take anything personal. The more info I have the better. Thx

Many KAG Merchant Gas CDL jobs are now for TEAMS.

If you found a KAG driving job that is truly solo -- that's (currently) a nice catch.

Take it. Then later -- post here what your experiences were like there.

My guess is the quality of your experience there will largely be terminal specific. Some terminals are pretty good; conversely, others can be a bit of hell on earth.

I guess it would be that they're very strict. They have specific guidelines and rules that you must follow each and every load, each and every delivery, each and every fill and they don't mess around. If you can't do that you won't be there long. If you can do that and treat it like a job and not as a lifestyle you can make $140,000 a year and be home every stinking night with better Insurance and benefits than most everybody else out here. But it's very hard to find individuals that can do that.
Not sure about a contractor or carrier job. Probably not as anal as a company position imho.

Do they use Equifax's The Work Number to verify past employment? One reason I'm going to KAG is b/c I don't have the best work history. They even called me out on that, but still hired me. I've bounced around a lot trying to find my niche.

The GOOD: I have a crystal clear MVR and criminal record, good PSP, of course X endorsement ,TWIC, and clean Clearinghouse. I've never been fired. I'm also a 2-branch honorably discharged veteran (AF/Army). And I have experience with pneumatic, end-dump, oilfield diesel hauling, food grade smooth bore tanker.

The BAD: my driving job history. So I haven't even applied to the main players that would keep me local like AP, Airgas, etc. I figure they wouldn't even look at me.

I could get 12-18 months cryo experience with KAG, and try to come back to a local company. You think a company like Airgas would be interested in a trained Cryo driver, even if KAG would just be another company to list on an application?

    God Bless

The cryo driver members here will probably have a better answer -- but....from what I've seen elsewhere....a company like AG would love someone like you with a proven record of previous cryo experience...from elsewhere.

The bigger issues, long-term: can you handle starting out on nite-shift with a private cryo carrier? Can you stomach the gestapo-level anal mentality of their safety dept? Can you work with driver-facing cameras?

These cryo companies all offer training. You don’t need prior experience. What you need is a clean safety record and at least 3 years driving experience for Air Products and 2 years for Airgas.

Air Products won’t even look at you if you’ve hopped jobs a lot. They like stability.

Chance of landing weekends off is 0.00% lol.
I can tell you that you need at least 5 years seniority to sniff a Friday or Saturday off.
