Good Morning Everyone,
I have been searching on this site and also YouTube to get more information. Some has left me a little confused, some are informative and others never really talk about the topic of their videos. I am currently taking my CDL class at a community college at night. It's 16 weeks long. I come from a family of truckers and I used to drive with my dad some back in 2007 for about 3 or 4 months hauling sod regionally. I had a permit during that time. Now I am looking for a career change from what I am currently doing. Here are my following questions:
1. My son will be 10 when I finish school. I did a search on some blogs and I saw some companies that would take a child around that age. I called these companies to verify but many reps would say different ages. Are there any starter companies that would take my son? He's in virtual school so I can take him with me.
2. Currently while having my permit I have a tanker endorsement and tomorrow I will have my doubles and triples endorsement tomorrow. Once I finish school are there any companies that would allow me to haul these types of trailers?
3. Is it possible as a new driver to make at least $1,400/week with a tanker and doubles endorsement? If not, What freight can?
4. Once finishing school I am looking at Werner(They have a terminal 100 miles from my house), TMC(They've recently added some job openings near my hometown), Roehl, US Xpress and Davis Express. Has anyone worked for them and also what age can a child ride in the truck?

Some companies do have age restrictions for child passenger, such as 8 yrs. old or 10 yrs. old.
One company allows a child but not in the winter months; so that won't work for you.
We'll find some companies that allow a child and post them for you.jaws2003 Thanks this. -
Make sure you have hazmat endorsement also.

How does the child attend school if he's riding in the truck?
Some companies do not allow pets/passengers to ride with new inexperienced drivers. There is a lot to learn & manage & additional distractions increase risk of accidents. Some companies do allow passengers above various ages after 90 or 180 days of incident-free driving by new dri ets.
It's a case by case situation.
I sure wish newbies would find their first job before they commit to CDL school. It would prevent having school debt & no job.jaws2003 Thanks this. -

TMC is a good choice. Pay is very good also. Super nice trucks so a rider will be comfortable.
