Getting your own trailer is probably only going to help you out. It may be easier to get direct customers when you have the trailer to pull their product. Be careful with the Reefer if it stops running, they may put a claim on that load. Taddletales in the trailer with Wi-Fi capacity….Let the customer know what temperature it is inside that thing whenever someone with an open Wi-Fi drives by you. Or when you drive by business that has open WiFi. Yes, you could throw it on insurance, if the insurance covers it, but they will get the money back from you by raising your premium. It will be costly and not many. Will want to touch somebody with only one unit that just had a Reefer claim.

This part I understand, but find hard to believe. If I am reading this thread correctly, R&L Carriers, one of the biggest LTL companies in this country hires brokers to ‘balance the trailer pool’? And R&L allows some yahoo with a big belt buckle, and a chain on his wallet, 7 days free usage of a trailer? This part I find hard to believe.

It's not that hard to believe since they do use outside carriers...

Yes, the load can be cancelled, but they have to follow protocol. You can't just verbally cancel a contract. If I would have agreed to it, then guess what, I'M STILL ON THE HOOK WITHOUT ANY PROOF OF CANCELLATION. You have to be a special kind of stupid to agree to this. I wouldn't put it past TQL to pull another creative shenanigan after "cancellation". And what do you mean by a signed AP? I ALREADY had a signed ratecon as of 9:30 am. But TQL doesn't put the pickup address on the initial ratecon. Probably to prevent people from going directly to the shipper without actually signing the contract. What I mean by dispatch is getting the location and actual appointment time. And NO, they weren't "rate-shopping" me, because I did this trailer move pro bono. You can't go lower than that.

As for me ONLY posting about "broker issues", well that's just false. I've posted a handful of incidents. EVERYONE here has had a broker issue, including YOU. I just choose to post about them to help others out, and to maybe get a good solution on how to go about dealing with this BS. EVERY single broker issue I've had in my career is because THEY screwed up in one way or another, or they tried to pull a dirty move. Do you know how I know that? Because I'm never late and always do my due diligence and fulfill the terms of my contract. And I frequently do extra work without charging them, such as helping unload all of the furniture during a 6-drop load. IF I have to drive over 600 miles a day for 3 days to get to an appointment on time (like I did that last week) then I do it.

What exactly do you mean by "AP"? You mean an accessorial package, or is that just another name for a ratecon?

What are you talking about? I deadhead as a LAST resort. Why would I do that if I found a load that got me home? You are putting the cart before the horse. YES, if I knew TQL was going to pull this BS, then obviously I would have made other decisions. I probably would have stayed at the Wild Horse either way, unless I got a load that was pressed for time.

Please read before you post nonsense. There were no longer any loads to be had, unless I wanted to go to Montana or Wyoming, or somewhere along those lines. I got a load on Monday morning going to Phoenix. From Phoenix I got a load to Vegas. I played the cards that were dealt. The thing about my post is, that some of you are questioning why I did this, or why I did that. That's putting the cart before the horse. I made my decision and would do the exact same thing given the same conditions, so I wasn't looking for someone to agree or disagree with me about my motives. This post was to inform people, and to get input about the morality and legality of what TQL did. And to maybe get a different solution on how to solve this. But I already had the solutions because I consulted with some of the more knowledgeable guys here that I respect a week ago via private messages. But I didn't post back then because I wanted to give TQL every chance in the world to make it right. I didn't want to trash them for no reason.

Let me ask you a hypothetical. I assume you have kids. If you don't, then let's pretend you do. Your 18-year-old son borrows the car and goes to Applebees to take advantage of their 1/2 price appetizers after 9pm. On the way back home, a drunk driver slams into him and totals your car. You get rightfully pissed off. Are you going to say to your son, "You shouldn't have been out to begin with!" If you are that type of father, then I completely understand your posts. But you see, the accident wasn't your son's fault; it was the drunk's fault.

Yeah, my first job was with Stevens Transport. I was with them for 10 months. Your post is exactly why I haven't used it yet. I'm doing pretty good as is, so there is no rush to complicate things. Unless or until I make sure that reefer is 100%. I'm sure it's close to it, because those guys in the shop are very detail-oriented. Their boss is anal about doing a good job, and it transcends over to the rest of the crew. I don't really understand what you're saying about WiFi though.

LOL. I have been called many things in my life, but NEVER a "yahoo with a big belt buckle, and a chain on his wallet".

So you find it hard to believe that R+L hires outside work? Well...ignorance is bliss.

I know R&L uses outside carriers(all the majors do) I worked for Dayton Freight Lines for over 13 years. The part that I find hard to believe is the 7 days use of their trailer.
This same topic was discussed a few weeks back, the usage trailers by ‘power only’ operators. The general consensus was other than the agreed to ‘trailer move’ by the O/O, usage of somebody else’s trailer to go ‘shag loads on the side’ is considered a no-no, unless consent is explicitly given in a written contract.
