Question about staying an owner operator or selling my truck

That's true but it's highly unlikely he'll make much hauling dirt. He's looking for 2k/week.

 

He'd only need to work 16 hours as a o/o. For $2g.

and a ex fleet truck isn’t really going to like pulling a bucket/walking floor around…

 

As a fuel hauler myself (but a company driver) -- I've learned that doing fuel can indeed be fiercely competitive.


As an experienced fuel hauler -- you have acquired the basic skill sets necessary to transition (if you choose to do so) over to cryogenic work.

Rather than be a full company driver -- I think you'd be much happier working as an owner-op with someone like:

• US Cryo Carriers
• Genox

Since those fleets do cryo work only -- you'll find that work is also much cleaner than dealing with fuel (no fuel smell on you, or your clothes).

Try to talk to some drivers in those fleets (each fleet is all owner-ops), & see if they meet your income goals, and other expectations.

Also: to a certain extent -- cryo is relatively recession-resistant work. It has lots & lots of product applications, & lots of interesting customers doing interesting things.

The mid-west is a good location for cryo work.

Ex fleet truck confined to bucket walking floors? My ex fleet started off hauling oil. Now it hauls construction.

 

fleet trucks spec for the work, an ex swift truck will have all that aero crap ripped off or high centered on low pro rubber in the first hundred feet


Most dump work is 7-3… unless you do night shift and day and run yourself ragged, for still not much money…

I’ve got two customers I’ll still hook to a bucket for, but not every day, had enough of that, everyone wants to cut rates for work they can have it

 

The only way I can see you consistently netting $2K is UPS, on a turn that puts you up against your 11. Walmart is a possibility, if they’ll allow you to go get lost, running anything and everything (you’ll be bottom of the board). Farmers Oil and Acord Transportation might get you there, pulling bottles and living in the truck. Union car hauler might get you there, if you had the perfect gig. $2K is a tough number, in this industry.

 

Lot of guys running FL's.

I think my truck makes $135 hour.. spends about $135 a day for fuel.
