    Alright, so here's my situation:

Currently, I work for an insurance company (I sell life insurance), and due to the prolonged economic downturn we are experiencing (meaning, nobody's buying life insurance right now), I'm entertaining the thought of obtaining a CDL and going to work as a truck driver. Now, I was convicted of a DUI back in June of 2006, and my license was reinstated two and a half years ago in January of 2008.

First, I talked to Central Refrigerated Services Inc., and they said that they won't be able to hire me until 5 years have passed from my last DUI (which means I wouldn't be able to be hired until June 2011). Second, I talked to a gentleman at Roadmaster Drivers School, and he ran my record only to inform me that my license was reinstated 2 and half years ago, and his company won't work with me until 3 years have passed from the time my license was reinstated.

    So, here's my question:

Where do I go next? Is there any school/truck company that is willing to work with me given my current driving record, or am I pretty much SOL until January or June of 2011?

Hello and welcome to the Site:)

A DUI must be at least 10 years old for any company to consider hiring you.

If a school tells you that they can work with you, before your 10 years is up, is just taking you for a ride.

Thinking back on the prehire apps I filled out, I think Gordon mentioned 5 years.

But alas, I didn't keep a copy of any of them.

That looks like a potential company. I will contact them and verify that this is still their current hiring policy. If you can find any others that would be appreciated.

Take into consideration that a company would overlook an applicant with a DUI on their record for one that does not have the violation.

    Best to All!!!!!

While various companies post this information, as to what criteria they are looking at with any perspective driver/employee. Most, especially in this low point in our trucking history, don't consider any perspective new driver with much of any prior driving history, let alone a reckless or a DUI...why should they when there are so many applying that have spotless driving records.

And any company willing to take on a recent DUI offender should be warily looked at by the intending new driver.

Indeed they would. I for one can't blame them. Insurance costs come into play for one thing.

The bottom line is that a DUI can and does have farther reaching consequences than the cost of the ticket etc....
