well another trip and still pushed 2 gal of oil out in 600 miles only 2800 miles on rebuild. i know i dont have a bad piston ring because its not burning oil i know the rings need to seat in but 2 gal in 600 miles i deadheaded back home to get this load 1030 miles empty didnt push out a drop. im going to run one more week and see what happens. could a valve seat be out of wack or a valve seal bad? i cant figure it out anyone got an idea?

I would think if it's a valve seal, and its using that much oil, it would definitely be smoking. I read your other post and you said it runs good, right? Those heavy haul rings are a lot harder metal, and probably will take a little longer to seat in.
-
yea but #### 2 gal. every 600 miles at about $10.00 a gal that will get expensive real quick. yea it does run great best its ran in 3 yrs. i am going to do a cylinder pressher test when i get home to see if there is a difference in the cylinders. this is the 3rd head when cat overhauled it 3 yrs ago. i am not impressed with cats reman program at all.

i forgot i hooked up a catchcan to catch the oil doesnt look pretty but it works

Can a Cat compression ring be put in upside down? I've seen lots of blow by when that has happened. Also, did you put the heavy haul ring into the liner and check the end gap for correct gap before installing it? The ring could have too wide an end gap.
-
no i didnt check the ring gap i did put the rings in rightside up they do have a mark showing which side is up.

If you have an "E" model Cat with the blow by on the side of the engine, sometimes the baffles go bad.
stranger Thanks this. -
i didnt even think about that i will check that when i get home with 1300000 miles on it that could be it this oil blowby is the same amount as it was before i overhauled it are they behind that plate where the fuel filter base mounts?

check the breather, and the hoses make sure that they are not clogged up, last winter i ran into guy on the side of the road thought his 3406E's turbo was dead turned out the breather hose had gotten clogged with ice and caused the problem
-
found my problem! i am creating so much more turbo boost it was increasing crankcase presure causing a vacum out the breather tube and sucking out the oil. i put a second breather tube on draged my load down the road 500 miles and not a single drop of oil came out. with 2 breathers on the motor it cant cause a vacum.
