Just hanging up on them can cost you though. I've had plenty of those calls too but there have been many times they'd call me back later agreeing to my rates.

I understand your perspective and it’s not wrong, but it’s not the only way either. If it’s how you prefer to source freight and it works for you then you should continue to do so. I prefer a different approach.

Texas is getting worse... Lets just say between all the load double postings and fishing expeditions, the actual legit load number is probably half of that 1707... Meaning 3 empty trucks per load... That's beyond horrible!!!

ITS includes partial loads in that 1707 number as well....

The only other state that's showing more trucks than loads is New Mexico...

Sorry if I gave the impression that my way was the only way. It certainly isn't. I wasn't trying to argue a method nor debate it. I was simply attempting to point out that sometimes even "negative" outcomes can be positive in hopes it could help someone new in the future.

I agree with you 110%. Guys are leaving money on the table when they don't post their trucks guaranteed especially if all they're doing is calling on posted rates, which is probably what's happening. Gotta have the broker telling em what's it paying instead of the other way around...

Unfortunately, that's a very popular consensus. They never push for more and/or they accept anything because they believe it's better than nothing.

That’s a lot of assumptions to guarantee.

Ok I'd put money on more often than not that's the case.

………….if you want to waste your day playing games and having to drive all night to make up the time you spent playing games……….which usually only nets a carrier “win” on JIT freight.

I don’t see where you automatically think posting your truck will net you any more money. Firstly broker generally has a handful of regulars that get dibs on any “good” freight. So anything they are having to cold call trucks for is picked over trash. Not only did the regulars not want it but it’s probably been on the board for hours with no bites. So yes, now they are desperate and will give you all the money. The problem is there probably isn’t much money on it to begin with. Because again it’s been on the board and if it had a great rate they would have posted that great rate. And then someone would have called and taken it. And then secondly. With the load to truck imbalance in the current market the broker doesn’t need to call posted trucks. They can post a load and if it’s halfway decent it will be covered within 15 minutes of posting.

So the way I see it, it’s a complete waste of your time posting your truck.

As far as posted rates or asking a broker where they are trying to sell the load at. I like to ask and I will tell you why. It lets me know right off who I am dealing with. If the rate is somewhat close to a reasonable rate then I know they are probably decent and somewhat honest. If it’s extremely cheap then I know if they are either a cut rate cheap broker or they are greedy pricks looking for a sucker. All brokers get my rate. Broker A I am more willing to negotiate with. Broker B my rate is take it or leave it.

I won’t assume I know what/how others run their business or what they leave or don’t leave on the table. My way is not the only way, just the way I approach load boards and broker freight. And it’s the opposite of you. Do I leave money on the table? Sometimes maybe. Sometimes it’s on purpose. But I can promise you my truck doesn’t move unless it’s making a profit.
