did a check request over the qualcomm today. as usual, things did not add up. just checking my pay stub online now and I see $322 was deducted for per diem reimbursement. I have no idea what this is and did not agree nor did I authorize anyone to deduct $322 from my paycheck. will I get it back somehow? if I had not cashed in a week of vacation pay this would be another $400 paycheck. inconsistent/low paychecks are getting real old real fast.
per diem wtf

If you didnt opt out by 4/9/10 thats what theyre doing.Call payroll,I was confused too,it made sense.Look at your total gross by load, then look at taxes taken.Taxes taken should have been higher.......it does add up.
-
Don't take a per diem unless they make you.At tax time you will come out ahead with out the per diem.
-
I grossed almost $1400 and netted $700. that don't add up.

eh wrong person quoted on first reponse, sorry -
Get ahold of your FM and contact payroll to opt out. At least they aren't forcing us to do it.

I lucked up & got home early last week, went to d/l my check stub, and just happened to notice the posting about this. I called payroll, and indentified myself to the lady who answered the phone, explained that I'd just read the posting on their website, and told her I wanted to opt out of this. She told me to send in macro such & such, and hung up on me!
There are several things about this company that really irk me. One of them is when they institute a new policy such as this, and I have to take time out my life to opt-out. IMHO this should be an opt-in thing. It's probably a lucky thing that I happened to notice the posting about this, and got it stopped in time, because I would be "some-kind of upset" had they started messing w/my pay, like CarterB stated.
[Even after reading the company posting, it certainly did not indicate a reduction in pay, in fact I think it stated the driver would see an increase in net pay. ]

Another thing, that upsets me to a greater degree is the way I am treated (on the phone) by pretty much anyone other than my dispatcher. At least he pretends to treat me with some degree of respect, but these other bozo's w/their condescending, couldn't care less, donkey-cavity attitudes... makes me wanna reach out & "touch" them... and I really am a very non-violent, non-physical person.
[I think they should take some of the savings they got out of turning our truck speed down and spend it on a phone etiquette course for the people who have to deal w/drivers. Maybe the turn-over rate would decrease just a little if they treated their drivers with some common courtesy.]
On the rare occaisions when I have been face-to-face with office/mngt. types I have no complaints. Never had any problems. Have always been treated very fairly & respectfully. They're never very friendly, but I think that is just an Iowa thing? Maybe it's me? I've been told before that I have an intimidating appearance, but I always try to be polite & friendly.

Carter, I'm looking forward to your next posting, to see what you found out about all this, and I'm sorry if I jacked this thread w/my post. Just venting, I guess. -
apparently my issue was due to my inability to read my check. I don't understand per diem so I opted out. I still can't figure out deductions.
