OK
My 3.5 cents worth.
I see nothing wrong with this thread so far. It is an open forum and as such all posts when reasonably on topic are fair. It is one persons (the poster) point of view, good , bad or ??. the way it is and works.
As with any product, If you have used A, B or C brand and are now using D brand, it is going to be compared to these others. Nothing wrong with that.
If a true full support only thread is wanted, then start one and make sure it is clearly labeled as such, and that only support issues will be allowed for posting.
A note on this, if the forum allows this for one MFG, then they need to offer it to all MFGs. Maybe set up a MFG support section.

Espressolane pretty much hit it on the head. It's an open forum, the thread is reasonably on topic, there are multiple points of view being expressed on this product and comparisons to its competing products. If Mark wants a support-only thread, he needs to start a thread clearly dedicated to support.
You don't need to worry about moving posts over from this thread onto a new support thread, because the forum statistics show that almost nobody reads past the 3 most recent pages on a thread anyway, and the volunteers that make up the moderating staff just don't have that kind of time. If Mark adds a link to his signature that points to the new support thread, users visiting this old thread will see it in his posts here and know where to go for support.Espressolane, Mark Kling and rookietrucker Thank this. -
I started a support only thread.
This thread can continue for general discussion of how the TND interacts with other navigation devices and/or software.
I will monitor both, but support should be directed to the support thread please.
Thanks,

OK, I just got back from a trip to Brownsville TX. I put the TND500 up there with the Tom Tom and started down the road. Both had me going through Houston to 59. The Tom Tom was well ahead of the 500 in letting you know what lanes to be in, which is a big deal in Houston. Once I got right in the middle of Houston the 500 locked up and didnt come around again until I was on 59, the map just froze up. The Tom Tom never missed a beat. When trying to find the address in Brownsville, the best the 500 could do was the city center. It couldnt find the road let alone the address. This road is definitly a truck route by the way. I was going to an address on old route 48 which the Tom Tom did find. The Tom Tom could not match the address to an actual number so it gave me an option which turned out to be the customers driveway. The 500 made the rest of the trip in a case because it was just taking up space on the windshield. It does do one thing, it can find fuel stops. So I guess what I have is a $400.00 digital truckstop directory. Once I find the fuel stop on the 500 I set the Tom Tom to take me there. I dont trust the 500 at all, not to mention it literally cannot find towns, roads or addresses that I go to. I keep updating it and trying to work with it but its just not got what it takes. I would send it back if the GPS Store took returns. Should have read the return policy. I still have to say as simple as the Tom Tom is it still clearly beats the 500 hands down. I can look at an Atlas and get my routing pretty fast, I use the GPS for finding the actual street address. I can also look in a directory for truckstops along the route, everything else is in the back of the Atlas. I'll keep my Tom Tom and my paper Atlas and sorta keep doing what has worked for 23 years. Technology is great when it actually works. As I stated before, I really thought that the 500 would be a digital version of their road atlas which has everything you would need minus the truckstops. How is it that with the library of information Rand has on hand, could they possibly screw up this bad? I'm not talking about glitches, I'm talking about missing towns, cities and whole roads. I agree no GPS is perfect and my Tom Tom is no exception. It tried routing me into a cow pasture one day and a dead end road another. But with that said I would trust it to route me around a town way before I would the 500. I still trust my paper Atlas and common sense over all these devices. Its just to bad I spent $400 on the TND500. I'm off to e-bay, anyone want to buy a TND500?

Let me have the from\to locations. If the address is not in the mapping database then the TND will not find it, but you have the option to "list" addresses that are close.
remember to have your preferences\route settings - all set to allow in version 1472..
The updates you refer to are for POI's, Global POI ratings, and construction, not mapping updates. A newer mapping database is in QA.
Thanks,

I have never not been able to find a town, only time I had a hard time was when my info was misspelled.
Not sure what the problem is, unless they are using the name of a spot on the map as the town and it is part of a larger town.
The missing roads are more if an issue, but most (unless new) are not missing.
They are just not listed by the state as truck routes. So the TND will not want you to go there. Thus it will not show the address.
This happens now and then.Dieselboss Thanks this. -

Can a TND500 owner do me a favor?
I'll be making trips from toronto to los angeles California. Can someone set a route from the Windsor Bridge in Windsor to Los angeles and tell me if they are happy with the route the TND 500 gives? If not can you tell me what you would do different.
thanks -
There isn't a Peace Bridge in Windsor...
