What lostnjax says is very accurate, I believe this though. It all depends on how much an individual will/can take, and how they percept their job.... If going to NYC makes you feel that you are being treated unfairly then you probably won't make it....now if you take it as way of getting experience and pay attention; it does more good for you then harm. Steven's wants to know if you can cut it, just 6 months of crappy loads then it all changes, at least for me it did. Bronx, NY to me is good practice...nothing like taking your rig through roads that were meant for 27' trucks when they were built.

Alaskan is correct. With most companies when you are a newbie you will always get the #### end of the stick. I think it's safe to say all companies that hire newbies has a different kinda B.S. it just depends on what kinda B.S. you can tolerate for 3-6 months. I tell every newbie I meet that if you sign on to a company stick it out for 8-12 months no matter what and you may find that things will be much different than your first 3-6 months.
I find it interesting for someone to get in a forum like this one and bad mouth a company and they only made it through the initial training program or never worked for the company at all. Most of the posts I see for other companies (and Stevens as well) is a poster that says "I heard" not "I experienced firsthand".
When forming an opinion of a company ALWAYS take what you read here and put it together with your own due diligence (ex. talking to drivers of that company).
Always ask how long were they with that particular company. If they were there less than 6 months I would not weigh their opinion very heavily.

If you will take note of the thousands of posts on this board, how many, if any, drivers compliment a company that hires newbies.

Every post is "they don't do this" or "they suck b'cause somebody said...."
most of it is second hand opinions.

So, with that said, if you see a company you would like to look into, first find a driver that actually works there. The longer they have worked there the better.

Most Trucking Companies Are The Same. It Is The Drivers Who Really Make The Company. There Are Such Things As Bad Bosses And Dispatchers. But Those Are The Ones That Do Not Realize That They Cannot Deliver The Loads By Themselves. If No Loads Are Delivered No Revenue Is Made. The Best Thing To Do With A New Company Is Be Honest, Work Hard, Do The Best You Can And Try To Get Along With Everyone. Its Hard Enough To Please The Customers These Days Much Less Have To Babysit Drivers As Well. It Is A Catch 22 Situation That Gets Increasingly Worse. Dot Does Not Help Either. They Want To Get You To Rest Rest Rest, But........let Them Run Out Of Coffee And Donuts Cause The Trucks Are Late!!!!!!! It Is All About Priority. If You Have Yours Set To Work, Do An Honest Days Work, Run Good Use Your Time Wisely, You Will Make A Good Driver. Oh And Stay Away From Those Darn Machines In The Truck Stops Lol

I think we have some company men on here hyping the worst company in the industry.

Pat, there is nothing outdated about the posts on this about Stevens. I no from personal experience, I won't go into the litany of complaints I or others have against Stevens, I get tired of repeating myself to every other person looking for a job, and being conned by Mike Sledge, or any of the other recruiters for Stevens.

If you want to sit for days on end not making any money, if you want to be treated like a 3 yr old, if you want to load trlrs for weeks at a time, just so teams can take them from you, if you want to be lied to and cheated out of pay, if you want to be persecuted for pointing out safety concerns, then Stevens is the company you are looking for.

If you want to know more, just click on my name by this post, and read my earlier posts aboujt them. Do the same for everyone commenting on the "who's the worst of them all" forum. You will get to read the real deal, and you will see who only post's when the truth is told about Stevens, trying to confuse the potential applicant. The only way Stevens can attract a driver, is to lie to them.

Heck, the suckered me in. They are the primary reason I bought my own truck and went to flatbed. I will never allow myself to be treated like that again, and will do my best to warn others. I would work for JBH before I would ever work for Stevens, And I HATE JBH.

I don't worry about NYC, I worry about who I haul NYC for. Beside, they haul into NYC illegaly. It is actually illegal to run into NYC with a 53ft trlr, and a rig over like 70ft total. The thing is it isn't enforced until you have a problem/accident. Stevens makes you run there, but won't back you in any way if there is an accident, you are on your own. Never had one myself, but asked the question of stevens safety and claims dept's after a review of NYC law.

Heck of a company, don't you think?

That's just the way they do business, that is one of the lesser gripes I have about them. Just keep reading the "worst" forum, you will read some things you won't believe. Most are true, but I can only attest to mine.
