I had one carrier that I applied to go back to 1992 and get my MVR from New York state. I haven't had that license since 1995. No problems, it was as clean as my Mississippi MVR but I was kinda shocked when the recruiter told me they were waiting to get it, the NYC MVR, before approving my app.

I think they will take allot of your work history with a grain of salt, since you are young and several of those jobs were when in school.
Why did you go so long before finding your first driving job though?
I have never had any issue finding a local job anywhere. Always had work within days.
This includes Maryland, Louisiana, Florida, NY.
It is all in knowing where to look and how to look. Finding a local construction type job is normally pretty easy, you just have to know where to look.

I chose to look for a driving job because I had just invested $4500 in my CDL. And I was only 18 and that spring is when the economy started to plummet and diesel soared well above $4/ gal here in NC. And just about all the construction projects in the area where either canceled or postponed until ? lol And tons of local drivers were laid off around here.

My dad is a dump truck driver here in NC and even he couldn't find me anything. I literally tried every business I could find with a truck of any kind. Tractor trailers, Dump trucks, Box trucks, Straight trucks, delivery vans, EVERYTHING! My dads buddy has a yard full of 379 petes and flat bed trailers and even he couldn't get enough work to put me in one of his trucks.

I never did find that driving job I was looking for. I had to settle for a $45,000 a yr job in a distribution center. And I'll give it up in a heart beat for a OTR job in September.:yes2557:

American trucker...if you're making $45,000 a year and sleeping in your bed at home every night unless at a "friends" house keep the job! you're doing better than a lot of the newbies are out here! Shucks even better than some that have experience!
