Peterbilt 379 hood

Mine doesn’t have a slope. Easy way to tell an extended hood from a standard hood at a glance is back of hood is even with front fender on the 119. The 127 has 8 inches behind the front fender this works in 359 and 379.

someone (can’t think of who) sells the exhd top skins to square the hood off (like the 359) which imo looks pretty good if it bothers you that much

 

No it’s extended hood look behind the fender……it needs adjusted terribly though

it does look like a glass hood instead of aluminum as well as having a stainless grill surround in it. The stainless grill surround won’t support it like a factory aluminum will as it’s really thin almost flimsy. Put a glass hood with that that bows out on the sides from weight and you have instant droop.

I’m not picking on the truck just merely making an observation. There’s a reason a Peterbilt hood is expensive and a fiberglass repop is less than 3 grand. I could be totally wrong but that’s what it looks like in the pic

 

Some specs have the cab sitting higher than others by an inch or two. The hoods are different. Higher cabs have sloped hood. Some 359’s were also like this. Those were known as a 359H. For high mount. Oil fields and heavy spec down here used them. Engine make had nothing to do with it cause they had both Cats and Cummins under them same hoods.

 

I question your photography skills and hell I ain’t no better but it sure looks better now.

 

I came upon this thread because I was wondering what the reason was behind the slope on some 379exh and some not having it. The picture really shows the difference.

 

...I don't see your mentioned difference here , probably just camera angle ..you can clearly see the angle difference on short hood vs extended one ...

 

Measure up from the rivet line at both the front and rear of hood and you will see the difference. Its hard to see sometimes just by eye depending on color of paint or time of day. The hood will either measure flat back to front or have a one inch pitch down from back to front on a same length hood. Depends on how high cab is mounted in spec. You have to remember all Petes up to the model 379 were truly custom built per spec. You could specify types of bolts they used , or rubber or plastic air hoses, or chassis paint before or after assembly so you don’t have that crappy overspray look. 389’s were more a buy them as we build them truck.
