This one is easy. Use the Austin, TX address on applications. If they ask, tell them you're moving there. You gotta get your foot in the door by any means necessary being that your from Miami. Then once you get experience, you can "move" back to Miami.

What choices does he have being from South Florida? A newbie may want to work somewhere all they want to, but with no experience, it ain't like they can write their ticket, especially in these times that ain a driver's market.

His family is giving him grief about being a trucker and may not cooperate by letting him use their address.

I know it. Thats really sucks. My mom initially gave me grief too. I ignored her and went to CDL school anyway. It's bothersome that family can't support a grown man's decisions because they care too much what other people think.

Same here; I attended Vanderbilt and Cumberland Law School and knew quickly that wasn't for me. Joined the military, then CDL school and couldn't care less what anyone thought.

Oh yeah, you're very accomplished. I graduated from MTSU with an education degree. Thought about the military afterwards, but trucking appealed to me. My mom's friends thought I was "too smart" to be in trucking. I think the college education has been a boost to me in terms of navigating the industry. You definitely have to not care what anyone thinks. Now that I've lasted 15 years, and can take care of my family and other kids, my mom.bas come around to seeing how good of a career it is.

    tscottme and Chinatown Thank this.

A formal education isn't for everyone and doesn't guarantee success. Letting others control your future can lead to stress and that can lead to an early demise.
I went to Nashville and joined the Navy without telling anyone in advance. After I was sworn in, went home and said, "I'm leaving tomorrow for San Diego, CA to start basic training/boot camp."

Werner Enterprises has its own CDL academy near Jacksonville, called Roadmaster. You should also give Florida Rock & Tank lines a call, as well as Cypress Truck Lines.
