What you are doing now is much more appreciated by me than bright lights. So many rookies have been seen giving the brights even the four
wheelers are doing it.
Personally I quit giving the all clear when McDonald's got sued for selling hot coffee.I do not want to be a part of anyone's decision making process that I might be held accountable for.
No more flashing!

JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS TO ALL YOU HARD WORKING TRUCKERS, ROLLIN HARD TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES! GOD BLESS!!! -

The amazing thing is that people have the notion in their head that by flashing the headlights...Someone is making a decision for them or telling them to DO something!
THE ONLY REASON THE LIGHTS ARE BEING FLASHED IS TO LET YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE MADE IT PASSED THE TRUCK YOU WERE PASSING!!!
You can then make your decision to either move over or stay where you are...But you don't have to do anything!
It started as a courtesy between drivers and it was originally done by giving a quick flash of the highbeams...But evolved over the years to be quick off/on at night and a quick on/off during the day!
It is much more courteous to use the low beams these days because the newer lights are so much more intense that they even cause a bit of discomfort during the daylight hours.
I usually don't look directly in the mirror but just keep the mirror in my peripheral vision so I can spot the flash without looking directly into the lights.
If you don't posess the simple common sense to be able to make these simple decisions on a daily basis....Maybe this isn't the line of work you should be in.
High beams are kind'a rude in my opinion but some of these newer trucks have daytime running light integrated into the headlights and don't have any other option but to flash the highbeams...Knowing this, I modified my process be not looking directly at the mirror anymore.
That's my take on it.AfterShock, Saddle Tramp, jess-juju and 3 others Thank this. -
I don't really see it as "making someones decision for them", I see it mainly as tellin the passer you're clear to come over whenever you want.
But, come back over dangerously too soon and you will get the highbeams. -
Saddle Tramp and AfterShock Thank this.

My opinion: If you wish to flash your high beams in my mirror you are being a jerk.
Of course while your opinion may be different, it doesn't change the law. -
Being a older person , i could care less , but those bright lights are hard on the eyes at night,as the mirror shines in my face, day time is okay with me, i ussally flash my lights when there a truck or two lenghts in front me and that still two close, but i can back it down if hes in that much of hurry, now when i trained drivers that would flash too let em in and tell em the rules of flashing , if you flash too close, your in the jumper seat for 16 hrs, thats the rules and my company was okay with it,had one flash him in right on his tail, yup he got the jumper seat, becuse you never know who or what going jump in front of truck ahead you and with that close , o-boy, but yes to answer the quistion, yes i flash during the day with low beems only and 4 way at night, and im not stopping now nor ever i will, but when you flash use common sense is all i ask, Everett.
Saddle Tramp Thanks this. -
You can call me and anyone else in here what you want, but MOST people dont see it as a rude gesture. Like I said before, If you dont like it and think its rude, then put a sign on the back of your trailer stating you wish to not have brights flashed at you during the day while your passing someone. We cant read your mind. I havent the slightest idea what every truck on the road likes and dislikes. But since you are one of the few that has a problem with it, YOU need to figure out a way to deal with it if it bothers you sooo much to make such an issue about a common way of us truckdrivers help each other out while on the road whether its really needed or not. -
i turn my headlights on & off when a big truck passes me. it's just simple courteousy to let the driver know that its safe to come back over if they want to. if you don't want to its no big deal. to each his own. i've done it all my adult driving life, not going to change now, to old.
