I can’t say that the diesel engine powering a genset that’s driving electric motors doesn’t interest me…..it truly does. Gimmie that C-18 diesel and a bigger genset so we can have way better axle motors. If you’re gonna go go like hell. Why ##### foot around when you can motor right along.

Disclaimer I do realize that a set up of that size would need way more truck. But with more truck you can more amenities like a brass pole….

In seriousness I would like to drive a 589 a few days before condemning it. Maybe spend a little time just doing up keep to see how that’s gonna feel. They are not horrible, and if the only option I reckon it beats the alternative. I’m sure 40 years ago guys were excited to see how much more comfortable the next model year truck was. Perfect example a 1987 379 extended hood stand up bunk and a 2007 379 extended hood stand up bunk are worlds apart. Think of it like grid squares on a map now ask yourself if there is a place where functionality and dependability cross and are we past there?

I’m not talking power train or emissions etc…..but rather the operator controls of the truck. Look at how fast Lincoln and Caddies take a dive after new. Now I don’t know for sure but just thinking out loud.

Locomotive engines use that setup, IIRC. Theoretically it should also work for a truck, but I’m thinking it’ll be heavier than a regular truck.

Another thing I’m bristling at is the idea of yet more electrical connections and potential fail points.

IMHO we passed that point about 20 years back.

12,580 kgs is roughly 27,700 lbs. I don't think that's all that terrible considering its not a plastic POS with sheet metal for frame rails.

Fair enough. Have you seen the W990s? It’s a T680 with a hood, same as the 589.

Was the same on my 2021 389 pre digital dash. Located in a great spot but like you said, blinds the crap out of you.. Can’t win I guess!

Now the most annoying thing are those lane departures warning on the cascadias. The idea seems fine on paper, but to me it is like a torture device. Plus all the false positives.

I drive a 2017 389 I cut a piece of black electrical tape to cover the blue light and took a hole punch for notebook paper, put small hole in tape . You'll still notice it but it's not blinding bright.

Possible to silence the speaker the sound comes from?

On my Pete I just unplugged the factory camera. It kicked a warning light on the dash, but that’s been so long now I ignore it. That eliminated the lane beepers and the reading of the speed limit signs on the highway frontage roads.

Last time I drove a crapcadia I did the same , although I left the camera plugged in, just snapped it out of its holder and pointed it at the dash... I put my truck in the shop some months later for some work, and forgot to put the camera back up and got written up for tampering with company property or some bs.. :D:D it sure did work good though. No more of the constant beeping every 5 seconds
