Which companies contacted you right away? You'll want to resist the temptation to be picky. It's not a new driver's market. Not only that, you love it Florida and lack experience. At least you love in Jacksonville, so it's not as bad as Miami, where its even harder to get a job. Experience is the most valuable thing to have in trucking. Then you can be more picky.

I'd look for local jobs personally. Construction companies will pay well for a laborer with a CDL.

    Rohel and DOT foods today
Rohel said they only have dry van
DOT foods said you have to touch freight

What exactly are you looking for? Either one isn't a bad choice to get started. I didn't know DOT had touch freight. I've never seen their drivers unload anywhere I've delivered to, and I've seen them at a lot of customers.

Dry van is usually no-touch freight.

Did Roehl inform you it would be otherwise?

Roehl will give you more hometime options than those other starter carriers.

That's why I mentioned them first.

And yes....Cypress has a terminal there in Jacksonville.

But that info is no good if you want no-touch freight.

Maybe it's new. Or maybe the recruiter I spoke with today was misinformed. But 100% she told me I'd be delivering from warehouse to warehouse and I would be unloading freight. She let me know you would be getting "activity pay" but she didn't know any specifics.

I'm not being picky, I'm open to a variety of different jobs flatbed, reefer, dry van. I'm just looking to get home on the weekends. If that's not an option, that's fine. I'm keeping my options open and keeping an open mind.
