Your post is exactly how I feel when I see some of the forum members jump on someone doing something in a way they wouldn’t do. Some of the “well informed” “well intentioned” seasoned members on this forum seem to think their way is the ONLY way to succeed in trucking. Many of us have been able to successfully make it many decades in trucking and we all didn’t go down the same path as they did.

This isn’t about directions, it is about running a truck in a hostile environment with no experience.

as much as you and others seem to think that they are going to succeed, with the high failure rate in this industry, that surpasses food service industry, the more warning of what could happen lessens the risk of that failure.

Too many people want just their answers validated without no other input, they are myopic in their view and without having the experience to avoid the potholes, they increase their risks to failure.

like it or not, this industry loves to chew up newbies and the more money involved, the better of the crash and burn.

I don’t know the guy. So I don’t know if he will succeed or not. And what you seem to think is help, is really condescension. And that has never got anyone to consider your advice. The guy said he’s had successful businesses in the past. So, yeah he does have a leg up on 98% of new entrants. Because as much as you like to pretend trucking is so hard basic business principles remain the same. Sure there are some nuances that are different, but the mechanics of business are consistent.

As far as the high failure rates; well that goes back to my last statement. It’s extremely easy to get into the business with relatively low startup cost. Lots of people can afford the entry fee. But they have no business acumen. They don’t understand basic business principles and that puts them flat on their ###.

But again it’s not my place to quiz a guy on what he does and doesn’t know. I and YOU for that matter are not the gate keepers of the trucking industry.
