A story about cats and whiskey.
Barry Chandler on Instagram: "Forget Master distillers and blenders. The most important jobs in a distillery is done by an employee with four legs. Historically, whiskey distilleries often had cats on their premises to help control rodent populations. Grain attracts mice and rats, which could pose a serious risk to both the stored ingredients and the overall cleanliness of the facility. Cats became a natural, low-maintenance solution to keep these pests at bay. In addition to their practical purpose, cats also became part of the distillery culture and folklore. Some distillery cats have became quite famous, even receiving names, titles, and special recognition from the staff. A cat named Smithy was on the payroll at the Jameson Distillery in Dublin and was so revered by the staff that they had him stuffed and displayed among the rafters in the barley room to posthumously greet visitors and tourists well beyond his natural nine lives. Not terrifying at all. Midleton Distillery has whiskey cat, Ginger and Podge and this little buddy guards the barrels and warehouses at Clonakilty Distillery’s warehouse facility and so has been watching over our own cask of whiskey over the last few years too. Pshpshpsh…. #cats #whiskeycat #distillerycat #distillery #whiskey #whisky"
I think this will be the end of man kind.
