That must be one of those high paying loads those dispatch companies are always calling about.

If you go into Florida or Colorado it's always been get paid enough going in to deadhead out.

$1 a mile out of these bad areas is not worth it.

You're sacrificing the hours of loading and unloading plus the time of deadheading to load too.
Also taking on risk for detention.

The amount of extra time sacrificed and extra fuel burned by pulling a load is not worth it for $1.

Repositioning truck to closest decent load/area makes more sense.

    Sometimes, yes.

    Sometimes, no.

Sometimes, the lane Tampa - Augusta connects well, with ability to reload, further up north, the same day you deliver. If you know your lanes, then you know the customers and what to expect. I reckon, you're better off with $300 ahead than -$300 after fuel for a day's worth of work because a deadhead is work anyway.

By the same token, I guess, if someone is in Denver every week, or so, they don't presume miracles and they book the cheapo freight ahead of time, but they're knowledgeable of when, who, what and how...I don't know about Denver and the last time I was there, I deadheaded to Omaha...the previous load had paid enough to allow that. Irregardless, I wish I had something-whatever to get me there - out of Denver, to cover for the day of $0 revenue and 80 gallons burnt.

Policy here is the load has to have enough money to deadhead back to a major city in either Alabama or Georgia, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t get on the truck.

We rarely see anything out of Florida,

At the previous company I was leased on at we had dedicated loads into Denver that paid really well. And once we were loaded and rolling west the office would start looking for LTL stuff out of Denver. If you could get 5-6 partials in the trailer it paid pretty well. But that all ended once all the videos started popping up about how easy it is to get a box truck and all the money that you can make with one.
