Funny you mention country ham. Mom told me a story recently back when everybody was still alive. Dad had a brother and his wife who lived here most of their lives. He was ww2 vet. Critical of everything.
One time they had went to Austin to visit. They went to some place to eat down there. He ordered some type of ham. When they brought it to him he asked in a loud voice , IS THIS COUNTRY HAM ? Mom said she couldn’t believe it.

 

I remember when I could get all I could eat for less than two (2) bucks from taco hell.
