    It does happen. I don't have to specify it often, but there's a handful of sites especially on government installations, where we need an English speaker.

    Unfortunately, common sense isn't super common these days. I also have to specify going onto those sites, "US citizen, no felons, no warrants, no weapons, no pets."

    Lately I get thanked for speaking English and not wearing flip flops. Shippers and receivers are sick of it. I am all for LEGAL immigration and support anyone who wants to become an American, but it’s gone too far the other way. It needs to be fixed.

    Don't know what these other guys are going on about with their classifications like "menial jobs".

    Trucking is part of blue collared work. That name is from how some of the trade type of jobs traditionally wore blue collar outfits, like mechanics often do. Office type of work is part of white collared work. That type of name is from how some of office type of jobs traditionally wore a suit to work.

    Trucking is blue collared(or blue collar) work. Lumped in with the rest of the trades like plumbing, electrician, HVAC, construction, etc etc.

    Menial work typically doesn't require a special license to do, much less health checkups every 2 years. So the boomers can moan and groan about trucking being "menial" work because "something something back in my day something something", but the fact remains that needing a special type of drivers license with medical cards (every 2 years max) disqualifies trucking from being classified as menial work.

    And, when referring to menial work, most office jobs that are menial in nature would still be classified as office work, even if its nature is still probably menial such as receptionist to a dentist's or doctor's office, things like that. Menial work is typically inferred as being non office work.

    True examples of menial work: Janitors, dishwashers, gas station clerks, etc etc

    Respectfully, this is BS.

    People don't want to do OTR because it pays #### for the lifestyle and risks the job entails. If they paid higher, they wouldn't have problems getting natural born Americans to do the job.

    Example: Every LTL company has no problem recruiting people, and every person working at an LTL company is an American citizen who speaks the language fluently. Same with fuel hauling. Same with food service, and food service is probably the best example considering it's the MOST labor intensive type of trucking out there, and that's all American citizens working those jobs.

    So no, respectfully, American citizens have no problem working manual labor jobs. American citizens DO have a problem with working manual labor jobs for #### wages.

    My son can't get decent help. In a skilled profession in construction.

    Pay more wages.

    Are you going to buy shoes made in America for $150 or the exact same brand shoes made in Korea for $75?

    What's his job paying, and does it offer benefits (401k, healthcare) and is it W2 hourly, or a salaried position? If salaried, what are the hours required to work weekly? And what location (or general region of the US) is this in?

    Imagine houses prices going up. Because they offered everything you mentioned.

    Higher wages, 401k, healthcare, etc.
    The boss or company isn't going to eat those costs. That's a recipe for bankruptcy.

    Canadian tarriffs are already raising the price of homes. Now you want to add higher wages and benefits. To the cost of buying a home.

    Benefits to seasonal employees. No less.

    And then do it with today's lazy generation taking longer to build something.

    California is a prime example of businesses closing up with their $20 per hour minimum wage.

    Imagine not understanding that a good business will offer those things and will get top quality people to do the jobs they have. Most likely will retire or at least work 10 plus years at it. Used to be pretty normal to have all of that paid for to get a good employee.
