The burden and liability is placed on the carriers when hiring. They’re the ones who need to determine if they speak and understand English at an acceptable level.

Any other way like a government English proficiency test could potentially become a civil rights violation.

Having complete comprehension of the English language is not a requirement. Just enough to communicate and read signs is.

The system is no different than a migrant MD coming to the states. They are allowed to test for their license in their native language.

Unfortunately for the ones who don’t have any knowledge of English almost always lose in court when the crap hits the fan..almost always it gets settled out of court. Lawyers like it this way :)

See this is less a migrant issue and more a giant pile of various laws, legislation, and competeing intrests. Dont misunderstand me. Illegals and language are absolutely an issue. But they arent THE issue. Just a symptom of a larger problem.

First. We dont enforce many policys on the book. And when we do its spotty at best.

Second, illegals and forign drivers are absolitely an issue. Language being the primary. Dont need to speak english like a native but you DO need to be able to read signs and directions.

Third, now that we are required to go to a cdl school, we have inconsistsnt standards for training. What one state or company or school allows goes against all the others. It needs to be an all inclusive everyone gets the same test or you dont get a CDL.

Want a non english test? Sure fine. But using concords doctor example. You wouldnt hire a surgeon who couldnt even identify a heart regardless of if he cant read the name "heart" in english. Where as one who can at least point to it and know what it is even if he cant read the name is fine. Same concept here, you need to at least be able to identify the signs and know what they mean and PROVE IT. And that should be part of the #### test and if you cant pass it then no CDL. Also no more people allowed to "help" with language giving answers either. And if its proven you cant comprehend signs then whoever passes you anyway is financially and legally liable for life, and the minimum sentance is doubled for you. Upto and including life or even a noose. Stuff like colorado should not happen and as far as im concerned is cold blooded murder no diffrent then putting a bullet into them yourself.

Further if you try to talk to a DOT officer and either play dumb or cant understand them. You should be held there until someone who CAN speak your language shows up or can be called. No exceptions. If your late, too bad, learn english. No more of this being released because "no english" "U RACIST!" nonsense. The fines and rules for me are just fine for thee. Dont like it #### right off out of the country.

Fourth. Drivers are pigs. And before you say "forigner" no ive seen born here cornbread fed american boys be just as much a PIG or worse as any forigner. See that one tanker driver takeing a dump behind his truck. Or the ####### last night who cleaned his rejected load out onto the grass. This needs to be addressed regardleds of where your from. I suggest a fine starting at $50,000 with and upto 1 year in prison minimum for illegal dumping. There are ususally trashcans and bathrooms within 100 yards of your rig. USE THEM.

Fifth, most drivers nowadays are treated more like livestock then people. AI cameras, beeping warnings, auto breaking ect need to be outlawed and whoever came up with them shot in the back of the head. Those things dont improve safety, they do EXACTLY THE ####ING REVERSE and anyone who disagrees and LIKES them is a #### moron.

Sixth, texting should be treated like a DUI with the same fines and pentaltys. Whatever the #### it is. It can ####ing wait. Same with your feet on the dash. If your feet are up you should be slapped with a 3 month suspension of your license. You are driving an 80,000 pound missle. If you #### up you ARE going to kill someone be it the little ol granny next to you or yourself. You are supposed to be a professional. If you wont act and drive like it then get the #### off the road before you pull a colorado.

Seventh. ELDs absolutely are an issue. A lot of shippers put artifical pressure on their drivers for it. The hours being limited is annoying but fine imo. To many idiots who push WAY the #### past when they shoulda stopped and killing people. I dont like it but i can accept it. But by that same token too many shippers and carriers will schedule down to the #### second and threaten drivers into doing dumb ####. That needs to be addressed more then the HoS rules themsleves. Though the HOS can be improved.

Eighth. More and better parking. This is self explanitory. Too many drivers trying to cram into too few places. You want your ELD then you can #### sure make sure people can park.to comply.

Ninth. Emissions ######## needs to be addressed. A truck going into a max derate or stop engine on the side of the #### road because your emissions arent working even though the engine is perfectly fine is ####ing dumber then a politican when asked about a promise. There needs to be a temporary override switch or a way to allow you to limp to an exit even when there really arent many. And without making you do 30mph making you into a giant target.

Tenth. And this is a big one. A LOT of companys need to be shut down and/or forced to have a physical pressence here in the states. We have companys like superego or prime that use drivers that are garbage tier morons at best. We have parking lots in chicago with dozens or in one case hundreds of businesses registered to it who have ZERO pressence in the states outside a truck or two. Many of who abuse or flat out ignore tax laws and hell laws in general.

A common one is to buy a bunch of trucks and claim them on your taxes and just not pay until the IRS comes knocking and then shut down, sell all their rigs to "another company" at inflated rates and switch to the new company. Rinse and repeat. Many single truck forign owner ops do the same. Start a company stay here till the IRS comes looking for money and leave for however long and come right back. And those are just the ones that are commom knowledge.

Finally hitting a vehicle on the side of the road or flat out pulling into traffic both need to be so illegal. As in lose your license for good at a MINIMUM levels of illegal, that unless you or your engine are truely having an issue no one does it anymore. Obviously if your engine is kadead or your having s medical problem. There should be exemptions. But if you pulled over to take your break or take a leak, screw you. Learn to trip plan better.

granted some of these these are easier to fix then others, and many will disagree in part or in whole with many or all of then. But these are the most common and largest issues as i see them.

    All I know is this.

trucking use to be a profession where a man can sustain a family on.

    now

it simply is a starter job for migrants. Something like fast food for a 16 year old.

Take for example $15 per hour in fast food. Multiply that by 14 hours and 6 days you get $1260 per week.

simply put hour for hour your making just about the same as an entry level truck driver.

on top of that company drivers act like security guards for free rest of the time.

If you’re saying all you’re doing is grossing exactly what a fast food worker makes. You might try to find a better paying job in this industry. There are the jobs that pay #### good and not have to work yourself into the ground… Just saying

entry level drivers are and yes there are niche markets that pay better no argument on that, but compare that to let’s say a fast food cook to a executive chef.

one makes $20 per hour the other makes $80 per hour.

like I said before trucking is and will be from now on a entry level job because of the standards being lowered to the point that people don’t need to understand road signs to even get a cdl. Just remember the answers on a written test and 10 min of driving.

@motocross25 hay ima drag you in here to corroborate if you dont mind. But uhh ive worked for multiple companys in my life. Mail, oilfield, rock work, end dump and more. And i know moto has as well. And the only #### paying job i ever worked was may trucking. And i can tell you bones and most other end dump companys pay way way WAY more then min wage. Hell when i was company i wasnt making much less then $2K a week even on weekd i only did 50 or 60 hours. Which is pretty closr to $34 an hour.

Besides your 14x6 is a bit misleading 84 hours is 2 full time jobs and then some. You would be run even more ragged then driving a truck. Hell 84 hours on your feet sounds like pure #### torture to me.

Even on my longest weeks i never work more then my 70. And as an O/O im making a LOT more then that even on the occasions where im wrenching on my truck in my "off" time

I’ll put it this way anybody wants to make big big bucks pulling a Dry van trailer that will never happen because even a monkey could operate a dry van… The problem is there’s too many people that don’t wanna sit there and put the effort in to go after and do specialty work where the money is excellent everybody wants to do the easiest amount of work for the highest pay that will never happen…

One thing I wanna see changed is a crackdown on drivers who throw their garbage everywhere because there’s absolutely no excuse for it. Over here in my very hard to find, stealthy, parking spot that is priceless to me in Southern California because it’s next to all sorts of things that you can do and get off the truck and walk to. Which if you’ve ever driven in Southern California is not easy to find. So today I pull up and park there to get out and go for my walk and I see garbage all over the place on the side of the sidewalk in the grass. and I can tell by the type of garbage is that it’s the truckers that they allow us to still park here that have been throwing it out. It’s only a matter of time before they take away the parking privilege on this street. Because idiots can’t bag their trash and wait till they see a dumpster to throw it in. I’m just tired of it. I can’t count how many spots that were my go to places over the years that were taken away because drivers throw their trash out all over. Don’t they realize they’re burning their own bridge?

There are so many areas of trucking that need to be addressed

@ElmerFudpucker would like to see uniform jorts for company drivers and mandatory posting of trucks for owner operators

@Sons Hero would like to not have to log rescuing his cattle from the mud which allows him more drive time

@wore out would like to run overweight in the delta without getting a huge ticket

@Dave_in_AZ would like to not freeze to death and die while getting loads with a good ROI.

@blairandgretchen would like to haul overdimensional freight while wearing a Olviia Newton John leotard and not be judged.

@tramm01 would like to carry a bug a salt and not be harassed at the port of entry.

@Oxbow would like to run minimum securement when moving equipment because YOLO and he honestly DGAF

@OLDSKOOLERnWV would like to find truck parking by the Shed bbq.

@stwik would like restaurants near truck stops to have attractive single waitresses.

@TripleSix would like to see less neckbeards behind the wheel.

@Tall Mike would like to park in Memphis without his truck being broken into by fine upstanding citizens

So you see, this man doesn't speak for everybody.
