I am a 55 year old, fresh out of private school training. No experience behind a big truck. Have some experience driving a cargo van...but I cannot add them as a work history reference because of mitigating circumstances. I have talked to only one trucking company so far and they saw my work history, and told me that my hiring process couldn't move forward.
I am now in the process of talking to another company. I am hoping for the best but expecting the worse.

DOT requires you to report ALL employment for the last 10 years. Unless you were paid in cash with no paper trail at all, then if you didnt put this on your work history is likely the reason they didnt hire you and likely the reason no one will if you continue to leave it out. They WILL know your work history, they have access to tools that tell them (and not just driving jobs).

    Time to come clean.

Way many ahead of you just graduating or did months ago and still can't find a training company.

Economy & freight still suck. You might be waiting a good while.

In the mean time...list self employed on cash basis.

    nextgentrucker and Far.Away.Eyes Thank this.

    What does that mean?

if you worked for compensation, you have to list it. That’s the regulation.

You'll get better suggestions for help with possible interested employers....if we know your general location.

A current zip code would be just great....

My instructor had mentioned Swift but they were the trucking company that was unable to move forward with the application process. Schneider was another option.

The jobs that I have had in the last 10 years were paid in cash, both were care giving jobs. I added that to my work history and they said that it wasn't good enough. I added where I have a certificate and a very good school transcript with a few semesters shy of a bachelor's degree.
And you have these foreigners that don't even know how to read and comprehend signs driving on the road every day.

I became sick and had to apply for SSI. Other than being a mother and house wife I just don't have that much work experience.

Being a Mother & housewife & caregiver does not count as being unemployed. Don't list that time as unemployed, list it as Mother & housewife & caregiver.
Start over with the applications; get fresh applications out there.
"Driver Pulse TenStreet" is a free account for trucking jobs. Start there with a fresh application.
