I received my class A CDL in 2013 from a truck driving School here locally in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Before I finished school my fiance at the time and myself split up but we had a child together. She moved to Texas so I became a single parent from then until 10 months ago. I wasn't able to go over the road like I had originally planned because I had to take care of my son. Now I'm trying to put my CDL to good use and was looking for a company that's offering a refresher course so that I can get back on the road to driving. No one locally or anywhere where hire me without experience. I did some shifting on smaller trucks but not what I went to school for. If there's anyone that can please help me I would greatly greatly appreciate it. Thank you and God bless.
Please help me with getting on the road.

You have a CDL but zero experience; is that correct?

No Experience? No problem! — R. E. West Transportation
No one is born knowing how to drive a truck and it takes more than a CDL to be a professional …

Frequently Asked Questions - KLLM Transport Services
I recommend trying KLLM Driving Academy. You don't qualify for the refresher course because 3 mos. experience is needed.
Ask if you can attend the full cdl school.
This is a true OTR reefer company and the pay is good.

I don't think you need to worry about shifting. There probably aren't many long haul companies using sticks these days. It's all automatics.
Ordering a truck with manual is a special order now. -
Schneider veteran here....
You could well be in luck....
I frequently see current job ads from Schneider -- looking for drivers in the deep south, to add to their tanker fleet.
ALL CDL holders are normally qualified -- regardless of experience level.
Later, you will need both the tanker & hazmat endorsements (if you don't have them already) -- but (if need be) Schneider will help you get them.
With this option -- you could completely bypass pulling "boxes" altogether -- & go straight into pulling tanker trailers. This will set you up for the experience needed to later pull high-paying tanker freight loads: fuel, cryogenics, etc.
Most likely -- even with NO PREVIOUS CDL EXPERIENCE -- Schneider will send you to one of their tanker training facilities (probably the one in Houston, TX).
You really shouldn't have to do CDL school all over again.
KLLM is a good "starter" gig -- but most of what I see from them of late...they want team drivers....&/or at least 6 months experience.
HAP-PY NEW YEAR...!!!!

You'll have to start all over my friend. That's 11 plus years of having your license, but you never gained any experience. When I went to school, we had a guy in a similar situation. He was out of a truck too long and he went through the whole course, I want to say he ended up with TMC, which that can be an option too. I can't remember if they have a driving school or not. I think they do.
