During WWII, the good steel was all in the war effort. I remember we got a bread knife; serrated it was, to slice the loaves. The fine steel that was used in the bakeries slicing machines was preempted to some armaments'.
Strange to recall... Born 9/1935, and sometimes wonder ref the use in bakeries was more than that used to make bread knives. Could have been the quality of the steel tho. Still, was first serrated knife I ever saw.
