Rumrunner- I have been here about 3 months and really like it. I was over the road before this and will tell you the difference between this and over the road is huge. Yes you will work the dock everyday, and because you are the bottom guy you will most likely work the dock longer than you drive. But you get paid for it. along with getting paid hourly for drop and hook and such. As far as bidding- it is bidding on runs- If you bid on a linehaul run it means you pretty much go to the same place everyday. Its nice to have familiarity. I do not have a bid but get a run every night. I have been here 3 months and already have 6 under me and I believe 3 more coming. With the amount of work we have you will not be bottom guy for long. My typical day is driving about 160 mile and working dock about 7+ hours. It was a change of mentality for me compared to over the road, because when OTR it was all about miles. Now, it really does not matter because I get paid regaurdless. Now I just work and I do enjoy the dock work because its a change of pace. I also know that with seniority comes better runs, of 450+ miles everyday.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks! That's exactly the info I was looking for..I read that they also pay OT for anything over 40 hrs, is this correct and is there plenty of OT available? Also, are the city runs paid hrly or mileage since I would expect there would be alot of low mileage / long drive time with stop & go traffic etc delivering in the major cities.

Overall, I'm guessing this is a much better gig for the long term vs. OTR or dedicated with something like Werner, etc.. my current account with Family Dollar has me manually hand unloading an entire truck (all 2800 individual pieces one by one onto a roller, no pallets etc.) for around $90, plus .32 mile to get there and its rough work so If im going to be a dockworker I would like to get paid for it in the tune of $20 or more hr.. I can live with $18.xx and the benefit of using a forklift plus .42 like Conway is offering..

    CMate Thanks this.

OT is 8/40 at any X terminal up north which indy is (XIN). Drivers have been getting a lot of OT anymore -probably more than most want. City runs are paid hourly. Line-haul is mileage while driving and hourly for everything else.

It has it's low points but overall it's a really good place to drive a truck. Takes too long to hit to scale, but it's in the mid .50's right now and you can make a ton of cash working here while being home daily.

It is frustrating trying to work your way up the pay scale and seniority roster, but in my opinion it's worth it if you wanna drive a truck.

Jakebreak...I am fresh out of school and applied with Conway a couple weeks ago and got a call earlier this week. Today I had an interview and I am going on Wednesday for my Road Test and then drug screen and physical. I was told that I am going to be starting the following Monday. It'll be nice to get a real paycheck considering I've been on unemployment and that's no fun. I have read a lot of your posts and that's a main reason what interested me in Conway to begin with. Very helpful!! I know my first 3 days are going to be training videos but what can I expect after that as far as hours? Days or nights? Doesn't matter to me either way I am really excited to get on with my new exciting career with Conway! Anything else you can tell me is greatly appreciated! Maybe I'll see you out there sometime! Stay safe...

Jeff...The interview was pretty much just a friendly chat. I had initially applied for the driver apprentice program which is conway's training program for those trying to get a cdl. They let me use their computer to apply for the driver's position and I had to fill in some unemployment gaps. Then after that I spoke with them again and they scheduled me for a road test and drug screen, and then I would be starting the following Monday. Still not sure what to expect but once I get back from all that next week I will let you know. Everything that I've read and from speaking with them Conway is an excellent company!! Good luck with your interview this week and I'll let you know more after I take my road test. Maybe I'll be seeing you out there as well...Good Luck!
