only 10 mt trucks to fill.....now thats funny!

When the recession hit and Maverick let go 800 drivers that left plenty trucks to sell, fill, whatever. Hiring freeze for over a year due to slow freight but truck payments still due on the now parked trucks. Its not eeny meeny miney moe not enuf trucks so back home you go at Maverick.

I'd say their filling their parked trucks because of a number of things: busy season's coming, and how many trucking companies will fold due to poor safety ratings when CSA 2010 rolls out just to name a couple. Unfortunately CSA will put some companies outta business. Hopefully drivers at those companies have safety records good enough to still hold a CDL and or seek employment at other companies still rolling and growing.

Not true at Maverick i can tell you.

For anyone interested in applying with and getting hired at Maverick here's a coupla pointers for you. Common sense kinda stuff actually:

    1. Eye's and ears open, mouth's shut other than legitimate questions.
    2. Complete all homework assignments.
    3. Try not to say the following:
    a. "That's not how i'm going to do it"
    b. "That's not how we did it at __________________"
    c. while class is in session..."excuse me while i answer my cell phone"
    d. "I'm not going to drive an automatic"
    e. "Hey Dean, I know how to cut the wires in the VORAD and Lane
departure system so it doesn't beep at you all day"
    f. "If I don't get home every weekend i'm gonna quit"
    g. "The Maverick Way is a crock"
    h. "Sorry i fell asleep Ed, I'm hungover from the strip joint last nite"
    i. "one time this guy cut me off so i ran him off the road"
    j. "i can text without even looking at my phone as i drive"
    k. "i caught, and ate a 5lb bass from the pond in front of that
    building over there last night"
    l. "I got the company vehicle up to 95 last night on the way to Pilot"
    m. "Don't y'all drive black and chrome Peterbuilts?"

Sounds like advice not only for people applying at Maverick but applying at any company. And funny thing is it is so true a lot of what you put.

    Gary,

Thanks for the post. I am sorry you got the shaft. If they didn't have the decency to tell you their problem they were not genuinely interested in resolving the issue. I will be very careful in talking with them if I end up there. they have been on my short list of companies to apply to.

Let us know where you land next.
