Just got my Radioddity DMR radio up and running. Wondering if there's any other ham truckers running DMR and know of any rooms centered around trucks, travel etc?

I'm active on Brandmeister DMR only at this moment. Still learning how the whole mess works...lol

No he's talking about a digital mode radio. The ham mobile radios are called D-star, and they are on 2 meters VHF band and are used through a repeater which basically sounds like digital packet burst on a FM mode VHF radio. Here's a helpful link that explains it.

Sorry for the late reply. No, to cb/10m. I'm talking about Digital Mobile Radio. Night Stalker got it partly right but there are many other types of digital systems, not just D-Star. There is DMR, YAESU System Fusion, C4FM, NXDN and others. DMR is its own system, like D-Star but the digital encoding (codec) is proprietary. The DMR system I am using is basically a VOIP system but can have access to repeaters outside the internet. There are multiple Talk Groups or "rooms" where hams all over the world connect. You can listen in if you go to Hoseline. There are dozens of active talk groups in the US and thousands all across the world. A popular talk group is TG91 WorldWide. It's almost like an orderly polite version of CB while skip is rolling...lol.

Anyway, was just wondering if there are any other drivers involved with this...

I've had my ham license over 20 years now. I don't think digital isn't really a thing among my age groups, but the newer, younger hams are all about it.

Agreed. If it weren't for my companies restrictions, I wouldn't really be using it either.

When I got my license, you went for your Tech, then maybe a few years later you studied for General. Most stop there. Some may spring for their Extra. Theses days, these "kids" are doing three tests in one day and all of a sudden there's a brand new Extra on the local repeater telling everyone how to drink and live life.

    how old are you?

In my day, a lot of people sat for all four exams, and many times it was at the federal building.

It wasn't hard to "study" for the general or above now. I could not do code because of my hearing, and there were no waivers so I made it a game, taking a test in places I thought were neat as a walk in.

I never hear the new kids on the block on repeaters, a lot of them are dead or controlled by the same coffee klatch that scream if they hear CB lingo on "their" repeater, or if there is a bad comment made, they jump all over the person.

    Me?

I have no clue what you guys are talking about, I am an oldtimer extra with a lot of experience. I have had my ticket for a while, and I enjoy HF. I have a VHF/UHF/SHF in the travel truck, with another HF rig for sh****s and giggles.

I haven't tried the Digital Voice yet, I've been using digital to test out my antennas (my distraction in life), my favorite is my light bulb antenna, which is down right now. It has proven effective and fun, and waiting on a replacement thanks to our local eagle running into it. Instead of a 1000 watt bulb - GE E40 base, I am going to use an Osram E40 base Lighthouse 2000 watt bulb. I found two of them in Germany and they are in the UK right now waiting to come here.
