Iv'e had a few moments that made me "reflect" a little, but I think the most scariest I was heading up to a mill on Hwy 30 and a semi made a right turn onto the hwy I was on heading in the same direction. Ok well he could have waited till I went pass him but no problem, I ####ched lanes and was just gonna continue on my merry way. Little did I know that while he was making his turn, he was also taking out the pole that one end of the signal line was attached to so when I hit the intersection it dropped down into my windshield. Lol I was driving a cabover at the time and I dont think I ever realized just how big those things are. I did notice how green the light was also. Didnt really time to be scared but after I came face to face with it and pulled over I was pretty shook up realizing it could have taken my head off.

Once I was eastbound on I-10 in west TX right after sunrise. A bullhauler hit the median and dust was flying as he come straight at me. I yelled, WAKE UP DRIVER and hit the horn as I was planning my advasive reaction all in 2 seconds. He still come across the wide median and come to a rest just short of the shoulder as I gassed on it and hit the right shoulder. Dang Mexican that could barely see over the dash, you almost killed me as my heart raced. I looked in my rear view and he crossed my lanes and headed out in the desert towards some unseen ranch.

I can remember 3 scary moments. All were when I first started trucking. I guess you get wiser with experience.

Southbound I-95 near DC where you have like 6 lanes in both directions. I believe it was the I-495 split and I was in the left middle lane, soon to be granny lane liderally speaking.
Granny was in front of me and changed one lane to the right as we approached the split. Then she come back over in front of me. Then she went back over one lane like she didn't know what she was doing. I was cautious at this point but didn't expect the unexpected. We past the split and at the last second she crossed the solid white split lines right back in front of me and slammed her brakes on like she brain farted and totally confused. I locked em down and with heavy traffic, I was concerned with jack knifing into other lanes and stopping so I didn't hit her at the same time. I seen my trailer coming around about a foot as I was trying to keep a happy medium.
I stopped inches short of hitting the lady as she disappeared behind my hood. I could see her crunch up as I hit the airhorn while all this was going on. You just react as quick and best you can in these short seconds. She gassed on it and took off at the last second. I pulled over on the shoulder while my nerves shook out of control as this was my first bad experience. Fifteen minutes later I was okay to proceed.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
I believe I was in my second year about the time you get ####y and know everything supposingly, lol. I was on the Atlanta I-285loop on the east side between I-85 headed to I-75. Traffic was heavy and I was running with a bunch of trucks all doing about 60 or so. Out of the blue, smoke started flying everywhere as all the trucks in front of me locked em down. I had no choice to lock em down and I could see me hitting the step deck in front of me in slow motion as I stopped. With the grace of god, I stopped about a foot short. That day had broke me from tailgating. To this day I avoid tailgating and am an advocate against it. It is just stupid driving to take away your own outs.

Wow, personal attacks are real mature, What about the lives of people on the other side of the ####### road? Are they less important? Is there not a shoulder? Is there not a ###### brake pedal? Is there not an airhorn?

I was taught to always go to the right to avoid drivers going th ewrong way. Because when they realize what happens, their natural instinct will be to jerk to the right...

When I was on my CDL instructor's truck, we had a tornado chasing about a half mile behind us. Was going to try and grab an over pass and get under cover but he said to keep on so I did. Got to the exit in York, NE. for the Petro and the stop light was going hay wire and almost had an accident because cross traffic got a green light while I had a green light. Nosed in a spot and we both ran for cover inside the truck stop. That was to close for comfort. We stayed the rest of the afternoon and all night because of tornado's hammering down all around us. Got up the road about 20 miles the next morning and several truck's were laid over including a SNI on the west bound side of 80. Had the same thing happen in virgina. Problem is everyone was stopping and saw the funnel coming off the side of the hill. #### that, move and let me by!

actually hiding in the girders of a overpass is very dangerous compared to hiding in a culvert. the underside of a bridge acts like a vortex cone and wind speed increases along with creating a suction. If theres a ditch with a culvert, thats your safest bet as long as the water level is low enough. The wind will blow straight over the top of the ditch just like the gap between the tractor and trailer gap.
