Steel is a paid by weight commodity
The lightest trailer is a flat, a step is normally 1200lbs or more heavier and an light rgn is at least 3000lbs heavier than a standard flat.

I see lots of cascadia drivers and the volvo mafia just constantly on their phones. Once I passed a volvo and the dude was steering with his elbows thumbing away. What is so important that you have to be on the dumb pocket rectangle all the time? I remember a few years back I didn't know what social media was. So I asked my mom who is very tech savvy "What is this social media website I can't find?" "Oh it's not a website its facebook and twitter and all those combined." Took me a minute to figure that one out.

It's down to trailer weight. My full aluminum 48x102 flatbed weighs 9,900 lbs on its own. Aluminum 48x102 step is about 10,500lbs. 48x102 steel RGN is 17,000 lbs.

Unless you are one of the "old outlaws" that load heavy and run around open scales or use a side kit.

    Weight. I’m 56,000 empty vs a 28,000 pound flatbed.

TN is 3 cent a ton mile. So every ton over 80 cost 3 cent a mile. It adds up quick
