During my home time in my personal vehicle I recently crashed my personal vehicle going 30 lost traction in the snowstorm. I hit a stop sign and got stuck along the guide wire of an electric pole first responders came on site and a report was written with the responding officers. I was not issued a ticket or citation but I did file a claim through my insurance as was required by the officers. The only property damage was the stop sign as far as I’m aware and my vehicle was towed off the scene after they turned off the pole for safety reasons.I know I will have to report this to my company on Monday and I am afraid I will lose my job because of this incident. I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what the outcome was for them. I only have 3 years of CDL experience no accidents no tickets in either vehicles until now.

    Personal vehicle..no tickets.

I really don’t understand why you’d run right to your company and tell them.

They’ll find out when it comes time to pull my report for the insurance renewal I’m assuming

Where do you live that a "report" shows up on your driving record?

Take a trip to the reporting police station and ask them if it will show up. I highly doubt it will if they didn't issue a citation.

So what..I’d just keep my mouth shut about it. You got 3 years in so I really wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

If you drove for me and I saw a huge increase on my insurance premiums at renewal time..then we’d probably have a chat about it. Other than that..just relax.

It’s not going to be on your mvr unless you got a ticket / citation or even a written warning.

We’re required to pull drivers mvr’s twice a year so if you got a ticket they’ll probably see it.

I could easily be wrong, but I can't see that being the case here in the states. We literally have thousands of auto insurance companies. And millions of accidents each year. I doubt there is a mandatory database that insurers have to send info to when a claim is made.

I had a no citation fender bender several years ago that has never shown up on my free yearly DAC report. But maybe things have changed.

When an insurance company pays a claim ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES can see the driver info, claim info & amount. The insurance company knows more than the police & their databases are shared so drivers with claims don't sneek into insurance coverage without being charged for their bad outcomes.

I don't know what the policies are for your company require you to admit to them. I think FMCSA dropped the every year certification drivers signed in past to disclose tickets. I don't think accidents in personal cars were ever required to be disclosed by the Feds. Your company may or may not have a policy that requires you to report an accident in your personal vehicle. Companies can be more strict than the federal minimums. Either ask your company or read through every page of company policy to find out if you are required to report the accident.

I wouldn't say anything, unless I prefer to be unemployed.

You were in your private vehicle and no ticket was involved. Don't say anything about it.
