On Tuesday I was pulling out of a dock and was beginning to turn and it happened. I had dropped my trailer. It was was a very light load and was able to crank it up easily, however with it being a new facility I figured they had the camera's not to mention yard jockeys, etc I called my boss right away.

There was no damage which is the only bright side. Do I have a chance of saving my job or will I get fired?

Sounds like another "high hooker" to me. Did you check the 5th wheel before moving? 5th wheels rarely, if ever fail, and yes, you could be on the hook with this one. I probably wouldn't have said anything, but like you say, cameras are everywhere. Have to wait and see, and make sure you check that 5th wheel. Typically, a high hook, where the pin rides over the jaws, won't come loose until you turn. Good luck.

I don't see why you'd be fired. No damage, you learned a lesson and you'll most likely double check this from now on , and most importantly you called and told someone what happened. We're all human and going to make mistakes. If I was your boss I'd be impressed that you owned your mistake and didn't try to hide it . We learn for our mistakes and thankfully no damage no one hurt . I wouldn't worry about it if I was you.

If nothing was broken like the back window from an airline hitting it after it pulled loose I would’ve just raised it, backed under it again, this time visually checking it afterwards, and drove on. No need to tell on yourself.

I checked gap and release lever, I only got half way in to check the kingpin. I used to be super anal with checking however got laxed. I learned my lesson, that's for sure. I'm thinking of resigning before it goes to corporate review. Been here for 13 months.

When I worked for my previous company several guys dropped them at the DC, but local management wouldn't report them, of course when a couple guys had it happen just outside the gate it was auto termination.

Well, I certainly wouldn't resign, you didn't kill anyone, I'd wait and see how they view it. My union job, that would have been a "chargeable" offense, like blowing a tire or hitting a deer, 3 and you were out. If you haven't had any other infractions, you may be let off the hook with an aXX chewin', but I wouldn't resign just yet.

How is hitting a deer chargeable to a driver? How are you supposed to avoid that just asking? There are 9 deer laying on the side and in median in a stretch of I-20 as of Friday, between mile 1 and 12. They are plentiful as rats here close to the river.

My personal belief is telling them was the way to go. Some places would see it on video or someone would report it and they won't tolerate dishonesty. At least you can live with yourself. They also know they have an honest employee. Good for you.

    Luckily you weren’t heavy!

This one happened 6 years ago at Food Lion. Some drivers trailer came disconnected leaving the dock and bowled over two loaded trailers!
