"According to research from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), the most safety-critical events for truck drivers occur in the first day following an hour-of-service restart, that tracks with previous data that showed the most accidents occur in the first hour the driver is on the road.
However, the analysis showed no relationship between either the duration of the restart period or differences between the safety of all hours after the first of the day, including in the eleventh hour."

What I got from the article was that, from the results of their research, the first hour of driving, on any day, was a critical hour. Driving before being fully waked up, driving in morning traffic, and the like.

True. But we know what the companies will be thinking.

I got the same read as you did though.

Running nights, the hardest part for me is the first hour on the return trip home Tuesday morning which would be about 8 total hours into my Monday shift after the weekend. Doesn't seem to matter how or when I sleep on Monday's - I always feel like crap on the first half of the ride home.

The run I'm thinking about bidding pushes the 11/14 every night,.....I haven't made my mind up if I'll jump at it if it opens up or not,......

Those are not for me but that's just personal preference. I hold one that's about 420 miles nightly and can generally be done in 12 total hours including breaks - 7 total hours of driving. I've run the long ones and even in the summer I just don't like being in the truck that long - nothing worse than 540 miles without seeing pavement in the middle of January either.

We also run 60 hour logs here still and I'm not quite high enough on the long one to run 5 - I wouldn't be able to get out of the hub early enough so I would have to run 4 and a short on Wednesday so by the end of the week I would only make a little more. If we changed to a 70, I would think about it for a year just to see what kind of money I could pull with 100K being the goal.

I'm not sure how many line-haul options you would have, but I'll give up a little money to work a little less - it all comes down to personal preference though. Plus once you're on the road it almost becomes an unheathy love affair..lol.. As much as I want a city start, I just can't sign the paper..lol..

The run in question is a bit over 500 miles a night,...With 3 to 4 hours on the dock,....And most of the miles are 2 lane,.......

    But the dollars are big,......

Not sure if I would give up my normal life for it though,...Hell I'm not even sure it will open up,.....

Tell you what though, the two lane wouldn't bother me at all. I didn't mind running it in Pa or Upstate NY and you can make a lot better time out there. On a 70 hour log that run would interest me if it came up. With what I have available to me here with the 60 hour log, the one I'm on works real well for me right now - it's the perfect balance of money and time for me.

It's definitely will be a tough decision for you if it opens up but it's never a bad thing to have options.
