I know what you mean. Here I am posting about my adventures on the road and my misadventure ending up in the hospital 10 hours from home, and how I'm grateful of Swift sticking by me and helping me get home and just encouraging me to get better and not to worry about my job. Then some fool comes in here and tells me that I souldn't be grateful for a bus ticket when a decent company would have bought me a plane ticket. Call me a cynic, but if that is the mark of a decent company, then I truly don't believe one exists...anywhere. Closest I ever came was a company I worked for 15 years ago got me and my wife an emergency plane ticket to her fathers funeral. Yes, that was really cool of them, except it was only a loan that I had to repay out of my checks. Point is, in the trucking industry, I don't believe that kind of generousity exists, whether it's a big mega company or a little local outfit.
Say what you want, I still believe Swift done me good getting me home and I plan on sticking with them as long as they want me. If you don't like that, then I guess you don't need to visit my threads then, do ya?scatruck Thanks this. -
I think in your case, a plane was not the "viable" option, close enough for a bus! Swift is better in some instances than others, and on the flip side, they have their short comings...just like any business in any field. -

Everybody seems to have a real issue with riding the bus, but honestly, it really doesn't bother me that much. If you really think about it, it is nothing more than a really long plane ride. You have to deal with the same kind of crowd issues and dealing with parents and noisy kids, rude people who lay their seats back in your face, and uncomfortable seats. The only difference is that planes will often get you there quicker. Big deal, with a bus, you don't have to worry about strip searches or terrorists trying to blow you up. -
It is good to finally read something good about Swift. I also have a prehire from them, just need to get school done and decide which company to go to orientation for. Thanks for the good information.

Hey Dodge depending on when you`re going back to get a truck I might end up seeing you there. Finished my orientation and week of training but I have an appointment next week I can`t miss so they were cool enough to let me get done with training early, do all my testing out in one day, then let me go home to get everything taken care of. And it really is good to hear people say some good things about Swift considering all the negative stuff I`ve heard but I will agree...the people in Columbus are pretty awesome, especially Kristen. Looking forward to getting my truck and heading back out on the road.

My follow up doctor appointment is tuesday morning. I'm going crazy with anticipation wondering if they will release me or not. To be honest, I'm still not feeling 100%, but I think I could handle driving a truck. I am feeling better everyday so I guess it's just a matter of time. I just need to get back out there before my wife kills me!
Midknight, congrats on making it this far. Feels good doesn't it. Kristen is pretty helpful, even after I got my own truck, she still answered some questions for me.
Rioman, I wish you luck as you get started. I would recommend going with Swift, but then I might be a little partial right now. Truth is you need to figure out what you want from a company, then research all the companies you are interested in and find out who might come closest to your expectations. I don't think any company will meet all of your expectations, but many of them may come close. And ignore all of the negative talk. Any bad comments that can or has been said about Swift, for example, can and has also been said aout any other company out there. Don't believe me? Just write down some of the more common complaints, then visit a thread for another company and see how many are the same. It's all the same BS, just different players.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Have I mentioned how much I'm impressed with Swift? My DM called me this morning to see how I was feeling, and my mentor called me last week asking he same thing. That's pretty cool in my book. He knows my dr appointment is tomorrow and just said to call him afterwards and let him know how it goes, which I was going to do anyway, of course. The cool thing is that he said not to push myself, just get better and not to worry, my job is secure. I actually have until May 13 on my leave of absence, but I don't wanna go another 2 weeks. Got my fingers crossed for some good news tomorrow!
