Hello,
We purchased a 2022 ISUZU NPR HD in 2022, and although it’s quite new, I’ve noticed considerable rust around the engine area. I’m wondering if this is normal or if it could indicate a potential issue.
The truck is still under warranty, but the warranty period ends in 10 days. A few weeks ago, I mentioned this to the ISUZU sales representative, who advised me to bring the truck in for inspection.
Could you please provide your opinion on this matter?
Thank you.

Just indicates the parts or truch was stored in a area subject to salt air, say, like Korea or perhaps on board the ship brining it here. The picture shows external rust that could be easily cleaned off and area painted, don't think its a manufacturing issue, maintenace falls on the owners. The engines in my vechicle do not have any rust showing I would have taken care of it along time ago. Good Luck, but dont expect the dealer to do to much.
Just looks like bare steel. would have beeen nice if they used a bolt with a cad coating, or painted the engine partsLast edited: Mar 8, 2025

What rust? I was expecting to see an ugly rusted hunk of metal. That looks dang near brand new for a 3 year old truck.
Ruthless, ElmerFudpucker, broke down plumber and 2 others Thank this. -
Seems Nobody paints the bare steel parts on most engine blocks anymore. Start go worry about it when those areas are covered with oil leaks.

When there are hot and cold cycles, the paint is gone fairly quickly. Normal use. This isn't even rust. You only see actual paint before it goes into normal use. This is normal.

Thank you very much for all the replies! So, is it okay to do nothing and drive for another 5 to 10 years?

That engine block will probably still exist 30 years from now.
