LOL Rio! Just took a glance at Cargo thread as well. I am an ex driver myself but the experiance put me some where else. Trucking or the field of freight is what changes a persons life, not the company. In other words think of it as getting experiance first and both look like good choices for that. If you make the bad choice as far as companies you can take the experiance with you. W/S is mostly dry loads and Cargo looked like mostly reefer. Read around on forums and if you still don't know put the two names in a hat and the best of 2 out of 3 you pull out is the company for you. LOL. If you are not in a hurry then that might not be the way to go.

Rio, I for got to say W/S has no driver trainers so after school is done you hit the road. Sounds like Carogo puts you with a trainer. If you get a good trainer it could be a good way to go since you never have been in this field. Gives a person a feel for what teaming is like and feel more relaxed is class since a trainer can walk you through later such as logs and other paper work. But some people hate the thought of sharing a truck. If it don't bother you to be with a trainer on the road then might not be a bad idea. Good luck and keep us up to date when you can.

I am a fairly private person, I like the idea of getting out on my own in 30 days. I also like the fact of getting a live load from Montana to California, logs, stops, qualcom everything in a live trip. I know a trainer it would be longer, still talking with my wife about it.

Wondering if it is wortht the change to go with WSE...currently with Werner and sitting alot. WSE recruiter says they don't sit and give good miles. Is this true or just another smoke screen?

How much solo experiance do you have? Arnold is another one that takes 6 months and you would get a better rate and about the same miles, Yes they are part of US Express and that is a downer but they were ok when I was there.

Decision has been made Watkins Shepard here I come. I completed the HPE and drug test today, everything is in place ready to go. Waiting to see for sure that I will be in class next week. Was told today there may not be enough trainees. Not a problem I was given a few local schools to call for backup. What a great company to get started with I know I am making the right decision. THANKS to everyone for the help and comments along with PM's and phone calls.

Rioman, I went by the terminal over here on the west side of town and spoke with a driver who was just pulling out of the yard and was doing a pre-trip on the trailer he just picked up. He said he had been with the company for 6 years, When I asked him that he had to stop to remember, He said he knows guys that had been with them since the beginning of the company, I asked him if they kept him moving he said they did but a few years back he sat for 3 days up in washington he said but everyone was sitting at the time, I asked him if he had sat since then, He scratched his head and said no, I asked him what he had in the trailer he said he thought it was furniture I asked him where he was going with it? He said he was going to the east coast and has to get there on Saturday, I thought WOW a reputable company who keeps their drivers busy with long miles and good equipment. I'm right behind you on the Watkins Shepard trip, I'm thinking this is where I will go when I get out of school. Thanks. Best of luck to you. Keep in touch, If you can relay the happening thru school. Be Good, You will be in our prayers. TD.

Okay, another question I have been in driving school now for a week. The school really likes May trucking any thoughts on that? I am still leaning toward Watkins and Shepard just want to get some input about May if anyone has any.

    Thanks.

If it was me, I'd ask whoever is pushing May why they like May. Maybe even tell them you're favoring WS. Find out if they can back up their favoritism with facts. May has good safety stats and I think they are better than WS...both are good so, to me, that (safety) would not be a defining criterium. I hope you get some current info from forum drivers who are working for May or who have worked for May. The WS drivers here are a tight-knit group, maybe May has a similar group!

Hey ONGB, the biggest thing it appears is that May has a training program and W/S does not. I see pro's and con's to both. I see nothing special about May it is a great company but between the 2 it is a toss up.
