I had an epiphany about backing up a tractor-trailer on a city street

Also looks to be plenty of room to make the turn in off the street. Even if another Truck is there. I see this all the time. Sure courtesy is good. Often an inexperienced Driver makes a big deal out of the situation, when there’s plenty room.

No, there was not plenty of room to make the left hand turn off the street into the truckstop. I know because I was there.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Pro-Tip 1: You INCREASE the danger of causing damage to others from your tail-swing when turning and you slide tandems forward.

Pro-Tip 2: unless you plan to jump out of the truck on the road to slide tandems to make a right turn you can mostly rely on learning how to go around turns 1) if you have limited space to the left to swing wide, or 2) limited space on the right to complete the turn. Each version of making a right turn opens the door for particular dangers and you have to know them ahead of time to avoid the problem.

Pro-Tip 3: It's easier to get tips from pros if you don't decide what you did was correct before asking for advice, and then arguing constantly with the people from which you ask advice. It is possible to read the advice, analyze it based on the information you had at the scene of the event and just not take the advice.

That's why a few replies to you used the word "obvious". I think you like to argue and would argue with whatever you read and whatever you did and your conclusions may never have yet been changed from outside info. As they say about astronomers, frequently in error, but never in doubt.

On this thread, I have always agreed with everyone here that I made a mistake on Thursday, March 20, when I backed up on the city street. I don't enjoy arguing with people. I never argue with anyone here just to try to be contentious. I am just very frank with people here if I do happen to disagree with them.

@tscottme in the past, you have always been one of the few people who respond to my threads who don't accuse me of being a troll and do not insult me. I am disappointed that on this thread you are saying that you think that I argue with people just to try to be contentious.
