I’m a new kid on the block as far as this forum, this thread goes, and honestly the CDL side of things. Just trying to reach out for any advice or
help. Been driving commercially for a couple of years (Septic truck driving, wholesale warehouse delivery) but not to the extent of necessitating a Commercial Drivers License. Wanted to increase my income and not continually cycle through dead-end jobs or at the least be capped out in terms of the income of job opportunities due to not having a CDL.

I went ahead and pushed through truck driving school on the weekends, whilst truck driving commercially (Non-CDL) during the weekdays. Usually 12-14 hour days driving up and down the Puget Sound area of the now-gloriously congested Evergreen State (WA) or through the lower mainlands of B.C. (British Columbia). Needless to say, it was quite the challenge to push through all of that to get my CDL-A, not to mention the cost part since I couldn’t qualify for any tangible tuition based loans at the time (worksource essentially told me I worked, didn’t use EBT and had a place to live too much to qualify).

Bladi-blah, did the skills test, passed, have currently my paper copy of the CDL-A up until I receive my license in the mail. Tried applying through Systems Transport as per recommendation from one of my instructors at the school I went through in Skagit County.

Everything went great and prompt up even through discussing my driving record: accident on 03/2021, road raging driver brake checked me then I got rear ended trying to go around insurance 50/50’d it. | accident on 09/2021 was rear ended, 100% not at fault | 03/2024 100% not at fault, hit and run from someone else to me that I regretfully reported to WSP, as they not only did anything but led to why my insurance increased and it’s on my record. | then 10/2024 I snagged a 22MPH over speeding ticket in my old wagon, forgot the change from 70 to 60 happened down I5 where I was, forgot my old wagon (‘90 Corolla) has a speedometer discrepancy of about 5-10mph so I thought I was going 70-75 when really I was going 75-80+. Whoops.

Then came the talk of my criminal record. I was charged with a no-contact order violation as of 07/2020, and charged with an 4th degree assault during 2019. Probz not necessary to get into all the meat n’ potatoes of those incidents; both came from very petty circumstances that I could have avoided if I wasn’t so stressed and tunnel-visioned during that period. Anyways they (Systems Transport) shorty gave me a call, rescinding my offer.

So my questions are: how screwed am I considering the recent speeding ticket? Those accidents are over three years ago but I have that hit and run, granted not my fault - but recent. Am I best to just #### off and keep at my job and wait until october 2025, when it’s at least been a year since my last moving violation? Or am I best to keep applying to other places and if so, where? Avoid mega chains because of how stringent their background check process might be and try local places, or what? Just trying to figure stuff out here.

I’m sure I’m thread #365927739 regarding these questions but please bare with me. Thank you.

That 22 over speeder ticket is a big one. You may have to wait awhile till some of that falls off. Other folks will be along directly. Best of Luck

If Western Express doesn't work out, you may have to settle for more local work driving Class-B trucks.
Do you live in Puget Sound?

I have class A so I’d rather utilize that but hey, if Class B offers opportunities I’ll work my way up that way. And yes, I live in Puget sound

There’s tons of dump truck work in that area. Maybe start there and find a small fleet to drive for.

Class-B jobs will be temporary for you; just long enough to get that bad driving history behind you a few months or so.
