Yah, you’re probably right and I’m underestimating how much fuel I burned up sitting in SD.
Just went back online and paid the damage and left a thorough note with the return. Probably get flagged for an audit now if my mpg shoots back up.
Q-1 IFTA shocker!

Don’t know how accurate it is but it sounds about right. Been doing a lot of sitting lately trying to get decent rates.broke down plumber, Oxbow and Siinman Thank this. -

If you’re not tracking tank to tank it’s hard to say. The tanks where I had to idle all night were obvious, as well as days of terrible wind, and many tanks that were completely normal for the terrain and payload. I’m sure if I looked at the quarter as a whole things would appear off and I wouldn’t know where to start looking.
Siinman, broke down plumber, skallagrime and 2 others Thank this. -
Y’all don’t tell your IFTA to your advantage???
Siinman, Oxbow and broke down plumber Thank this. -
Who cares what your telematics or bs quarterly reports can tell you, track your mileage every single fillup, use google sheets, gallons, mileage, 1 more cell for calculation and 1 cell for a note on high idle, problems with tires, etc, youll be able to see how weather cold idle, good fueling stations and bad affect your mpgAccidental Trucker, Concorde, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this. -
Never really had a reason to keep track like that since my quarterly reports were always the same…and I tend to get lazy about stuff like that.
Now that you mentioned wind, that is definitely another reason for the difference. Seems like everywhere I went lately I’ve had a strong headwind. -
Colder denser air and winter blended fuel, I usually lose at least 1mpg during the first quarter.
As far as running the overhead on a Cummins, I would do it a minimum of every 250K miles, I personally get it done once a year. -
The winds coming from the northwest have been killer down here this season. I burn 10% more calories walking 200 ft from my house to the shop in that wind. Big truck does the same. Lol.
Siinman, FullMetalJacket, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this.
