    I 40 in Tennessee westbound. Because I didn’t see it when I stopped at a rest area on 81

    Okay, im actually curious, how does this work? Looks like the crack propagates from the nut leading me to think it was a few too many uggaduggas of the "torque wrench"

    I don’t know, I do know that the tech who changed our wheels out for us said that he’s seen it before but only on aluminum wheels never steel, take that for what its worth

    I suppose those weld spots on my steel wheels are just for the kicks of it lol.

    Your likely not wrong. My guess is it was way too tight and when they hit a pothole it cracked. Kinda like how you can squeeze an egg really tightly without it breaking but if you sharply tap it while holding it tight, it explodes.

    Same concept. And i had more then 1 rim crack on me before i got my torque wrench and just did it myself.

    I wouldn’t trouble one’s self with why or how, as it’s all speculation. Just know you did a great job catching it and it just solidifies why one should always be checking stuff.
